Insert them or have a toss and look to bat first?

Weather looks like a bowl first kinda day but the fact we have two spinners in our squad and Hants have Crane in theirs, does that suggest both teams may think it will spin later, in which case, gets runs on the board first?

Quote from Gale in The Times

Andrew Gale, the Yorkshire first-team coach, confirmed that Root will bat at No 3 with Peter Handscomb, the Australia Test batsman, moving to No 4. “We have one of the best No 3s in the world available, so I’d doubt Peter will bat there,” Gale said.

So several people were quick to shout me down when I had Root at 3 and Bairstow at 5 in the pre match thread!

No news on Bairstow/Ballance yet at 5/6.....

My feeling is we've signed Handscomb to bat a 3 this season so lets bat him at 3.

It wouldn't surprise me if this is Root's only F/C game for us this year, let Handscomb get as much time at 3 as possible.

Interestingly the Yorkshire card has Ballance at 4 and Handscomb at 5.

According to the team lists on the BBC Bairstow will bat at 6 after Handscomb.
Will Coad continue his marvellous run of form?
Topley in for them for his first first class game in over a season.
Let's hope he's rusty but that he gets through the game unscathed.
Sadly no place for Mason Crane.

Where is everyone today!? After encouraging start, things are not going to plan - wonder if we have dropped any catches?
Does not appear to be any live streaming available today - we were rather spoiled by having pictures for Edgbaston match!

As usual, 46 overs and still no spinner to try to break this dangerous stand - come on Ballance please don't be like the coach was!

The lyth "drop" was off an under edge and seemed to be dropping down as it reaches him, JB got a big glove in one down leg you'd probably expect him to catch. The pitch seems pretty flat but there is a bit of low bounce occasionally, Patto LBW being one such example that kept a little low

About what I expected - they are a strong batting side and we are 3 bowlers light from full strength. Coad can not bowl all day or at both ends and at the moment he appears to be our only wicket taking bowler (he has over 1/2 of our wickets taken so far this season - 20 from 39).
