Re: CHAMPIONSHIP | Hampshire vs Yorkshire at Southampton (Day 2)

April 22 2017, 3:20 PM

Now I am getting worried. Their two opening bowlers sat with their feet up resting, new ball, scoreboard pressure, and two of our top 6 not batted for 4 months. Fingers crossed we CAN get the draw, as not enough time left now for us to win it.

Let it get away

This is where we really miss Sids. Allowing 60 plus runs for the 10th wicket and more than 100 for the last two wickets is unacceptable for a team with aspirations for a title. Hopefully we can bat our way through to a draw, and earn some crucial bonus points.

The team is all over the shop this season. You never know which team will actually show up. Hopefully our two England "loaners" will come through with a couple of big scores.

At long last. Lyth hangs on for a change. Let's hope no points deduction for a slow over rate.

Only two results possible now, and a win for us is not one of them.

I agree Alex, it's very poor, seemingly a lack of invention and discipline from our attack for this to so far away from us. Hopefully we can redeem ourselves with the bat.

The more positive spin is that it's obviously still a very good batting pitch and they aren't expecting it to break up otherwise they'd have played crane. On top of that 8 of our top 9 are internationals including the 2 highest test run scorers in the world last year. Bat bat and bat some more and see what happens on day 4.

Just seen score at airport - makes grim reading. We really need our England stars to fire now after Lees/ Lyth capitulation

Thought this might happen. Scoreboard pressure and a day and a half in the field.

Lyth not only dropping catches but not scoring any runs either.

Rather than people putting blame on the ecb struppidly maybe people should be looking at the powers at Headingley and questioning them about recruitment. Even with the England players the team looks light.

I had feeling this would happen, Lyth and Lees are consistently an ineffective opening partnership and requires attention. Here's hoping Ballance and Root can restore some parity.

Journeyman allrounder absolutely brutalised us today.

19-4.

Scoreboard pressure and lack of match practice in Roots case.

Hampshire still the bookies favourites for relegation? They have out played us twice so far and also Middlesex last week.

Maybe it is time for Yorkshire to say to the ecb powers that we are not going to include England players unless they are released more often to the county so that they are having more time in the middle rather than just using counties to hope they get in form?

Pretty difficult to argue that this particular team is light. Seven of the top 8 are test internationals. Number 9 is in the odi set up, number 10 has been a lynchpin in the last 3 season and coad is the leading wicket taker this year. Had our squad been strengthened with an extra domestic batsman how would he have got a game in this match?

Regardless of the ecb, that are no excuses for such a performance like this.

155 for their last 3 wickets. 19 for our first 4.

Not one of our better days!!!

The top order batting has been abysmal for the 3rd season running. Lyth has not been the same player since his spell with England. The opening pair are incapable of giving the team a decent start and something to build a big score with. Far too often the middle order or a heroic effort from one of the bowlers has rescued the team, (Bairstow the obvious name but that's not going to happen any more thanks to Strauss and his mates). The injuries to our strike bowlers have really cost us this time, - how on earth can four main bowlers get injured pre season. For me, the management (incl Dizzy) have buried their heads in the sand over our batting and match preparation for some time(I would be interested how many injuries our bowlers have compared to other counties). Why we signed Williamson last year when he could only play a couple of games defied logic. My opinion (for what its worth), is there are a few players who think they are Billy Big Balls and will be in the team no matter what. Our new head coach has a lot of work on his hands - I wish him well

And now Bairstow. This is as bad as it gets.

I'm going to file my 3:58 post under "misplaced optimism" and pretend it never happened.

Well what a surprise (not) both our England players fail. When will England ever learn that resting batters does not work. 4 months since Joe & Jonny have played 4 day cricket and boy does it show!!

Based on performances so far this season, Hampshire will not get relegated and Warwickshire and we will, unless we get some of our injured bowlers back PDQ.
