We need them bowled out by lunch if we harbor any thoughts of winning this match. 400 or more by them and coupled with the thunderstorms, hail, snow and rain forecast for the 4th day, a draw is the best we can hope for. We are missing our "strike" bowlers badly, just one of Brooks, Siddy or Plunkett would have made a massive difference. All 3 of them and they would have been bowled out by tea!!

From todays YP

"THEY came to the Ageas Bowl in the hope of watching England batsmen Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow......"

What a stupid statement!!

If I was a Hampshire supporter I would want both Joe and Jonny to get a first ball duck, and any Yorkshire supporter there would have been 99% certain that Hampshire would be batting.

What a star for future we have in Coad - will be great to see him and Fisher in partnership with the new ball. VInce gone at last.

What a prospect young Coad is turning out to be. We Just need our other bowlers to chip in with a wicket or two.

When all fit and available. which is very rare anyway, I would play Bresnan, Coad, Plunkett, Siddy & Brooks.

Bresnan & Coad can do the "Patto" job (Coads economy rate is, this season, as good as Pattos, with the added bonus of he gets wickets).

Bresnan at 5, Rash at 6, Hodd at 7, Plunkett at 8 is a strong middle-order as well. Tim becoming more and more of a batsman now and less and less of a bowler, so bat him at 5.

Doubt very much this season that we will ever have all our bowlers fit and available, so it is just a pipe-dream.

7 down now, the last 3 before lunch and we have a chance.

Coad having to take rest after long spell but would like to see Rashid on at one end soon to bowl against their tailenders. However, we have predictable Bresnan and Patterson on next ........

Agree that Rash could be brought on sooner but equally if the seamers have done the job can understand why you might first turn to patto and bres. Berg averages 30 in first class cricket so cannot be considered a tail ender.

The run out presumably the result of trying to get the 350 batting point. An example of the sort of situation we argue about. Some get frustrated when we don't take similar risks. I would feel the dismissal reduced their chances of getting a winning score. You pays your money.......

Pretty good morning session, just need Coad to get his 5 for and finish them off quickly and then our openers to put on 100+ 😀
I am setting off for Crete this afternoon for World Seniors Chess but hope to pick up news whilst away - good luck to the team.

Going for that 3rd run was a mistake. Should have settled for the 2 then try for the four runs needed off the last 3 balls.

Exactly Gavin.

The mistake isn't going for the bonus point.

It's thinking the risk of a 3rd run was worth it in that situation.

Having taken 6 off 3. You would get 4 off 3 with Berg on strike in that situation more often than you would a combination of Abbott 3 off 3/Topley 4 off 3.

Hopefully Root and Bairstow do not bat today meaning we are 200-0 at close of play. If Bairstow bats today we not be looking to healthy.

To much time taken out of the game already to be anything but a draw now.

If the weather forecast is to believed and the last day is washed it, there are only about 150 overs left in the match.

Bresnan's had a bit of mare with ball as far, agree Stu the forecast is not looking great. We will need to hit the 550 pretty quickly, and bowl them out for under 150.

Poor effort this considering Hants were 8-346, Rashid getting the same treatment as Bresnan. The best we can hope for is a draw at best, though even that may prove tricky now.

Monday's forecast is fine but chilly according to the bbc. We need to just knuckle down and bat and see where we are tomorrow evening.
