Interesting ending to their innings, Josh at the other end must have been left a bit tongue tied. Hard to see how we can claw this back, Lyth needs to make sure he hangs around. Lees and Leaning both need substantive contributions, here's hoping.

One day cup / Worcestershire vs Yorkshire at Worcester

May 5 2017, 3:05 PM

Centurion Tom Kohler-Cadmore, although born on the south coast, was brought up in West Hull. He represented Yorkshire Schools from 11 to 15 years. At 15 he was selected for the North of England.
Worcestershire then came calling, offering him a scholarship at Malvern College in exchange for a change of allegiance. He accepted and has played there since.
Worcestershire are well-known for this practice, but the ECB has limited their scope by allowing only one approach to any county in any year. They must also give 28 days notice of their intention to enable the home county to make an offer of their own. On one occasion they tried to entice four Yorkshire thirteen year olds.
On another occasion one Yorkshire thirteen year old showed them the door without any help from his parents. He is playing for Yorkshire in today's match.

Enjoyed keeping up to date with Yorkshire's excellent progress in the RL Cup whilst I was in Crete but our depleted team look like going down today as their massive total is probably beyond our depleted batting line up, especially as Lyth has gone. There are certain to be hiccups on the way, but good that several of pyounger players are getting chance - maybe should have played Coad?

We have all sorts of suggestions on this forum for signings, but, particularly if Worcs stay in the second division, there must surely be an opportunity at some point to bring this lad home.

Without Bairstow and Root, this is probably a bridge too far. Looks like we will end up 50 runs or so short ; but let's just say it is now in the "Ballance."

Oh God! Completely stupid. Handscomb called a second on a misfield then sent him back.

Not in the Ballance now!!

A bridge to far for our much weakened team. Lets see how it goes in the remaining matches, but quite honestly I can not see us winning any more matches without our best 5 one day players. Not expecting us to qualify, and even if we do, it is very unlikely that our team without Root, Bairstow, Willey, Plunkett & Rashid would get any further.

Why is Rhodes playing, nothing to suggest from previous performances that he contributes much with the bat or ball.

Does seem strange that he did not bowl. Was he picked just as a batsman? Is he injured and can not bowl?

Surely we can not break our highest run chase twice in successive games, or can we??

If we do, Handscombe will have to do it on his own now I suspect. Disappointing but not unexpected. The matches against Northants and Warks when we have the ECB Five again are must win if we are to have any hope of going through, not that we'll get any further than the next round anyway.

42 runs and no wickets from the three replacements for Jonny, Joe, & Adil (Leaning, Lees & Rhodes). It`s like chalk and cheese the difference between us with the ECB 5 in and without them.

These are the sort of games where we need a contribution from Bresnan too. Am I alone in being slightly concerned by his form so far?

Only chance is that these two take it deep and hope we can panic them in the last five.

Hanscomb and the "tail" now and we need over 10 runs per over. Hanscomb needs to face just about every ball now.

EDIT --- And he was out, the next ball he did face.

One of the major disappointments is that 3 of the wickets have fallen to the dibbly dobbly medium pace of Mitchell.
Scoreboard pressure I guess.

Very tough ask now.

Just get as near as we can just in case NRR becomes important down the line.

This is why we needed to recruit another batsman over the break, as the same issues are clearly there. Once Joe and Jonny are out of the picture, we have very little cover. Leaning, Lees and Lyth are just not reliable enough.
