If that's an ill-informed thought, Nick, you've at least got company! I much prefer the lower-scoring, tighter games, where the batsmen are struggling against the bowling rather than against the required rate.

Absolutely three cheers for the groundsman here.

Well in order to facilitate a long trek back from Taunton to play our quarterfinal we will just have to beat somerset in 3 days.

We might have to declare and sacrifice a couple of bonus points to do that, Peter.

One-day Cup

May 18 2017, 5:48 PM

A win inside 3 days would be the perfect solution but it does seem that too much emphasis is being placed on the return trip from Taunton.
I realise that it's not ideal but even if the Somerset game goes to 6pm on day 4,the coach should be on the way home well before 7pm.
According to figures online the distance by road from Taunton to Leeds is 249 miles (M5/M1 route) or 256 miles (M5/M6 route) with the former supposedly taking 4hrs 5 mins and the latter 4hrs 20 mins.
An earlier post suggested a distance of 400 miles -perhaps a scenic route for which no details are available online ! Let's keep the glass half full and not dwell too much on potential negatives.

Apologies for the 400 mile estimate, that is what it was - an estimate!! A wild guess, in fact.

If the match at Taunton does go on until 6pm it will be 10-11pm before the coach gets back to Leeds ... team members will then have to travel home ... uinless Yorks puts them up in a hotel. Not exactly good for a team playing an importantg match starting at 2pm the day after.

Thsnkfully S(l)urrey are playing at Guilford so will have to negotiate the M25 before travelling North.

It again shows that English domestic cricket is a complete mess. There should be at least one day clear between a scheduled match & a 'knock out' one day match.
