Cloudy morning in Manchester (not surprisingly perhaps..).
If i was the captain i'd certainly want to bowl today - and i could imagine Ryan Sidebottom with four wickets by lunch...

Yorkshire win the toss and bat on what looks like a dry wicket!!

Just sat down after ridiculous wait at ticket office. Yorkshire to bat. Astonishing.

Looking upwards it doesn't look like a batting day, obviously Ballance saw something different on inspection of the pitch. Looking at the forecast tomorrow may be even worse overhead conditions.

Seriously, it's time for a spell out of the team for Lyth. And now Lees gone as I type! Time for the captain to justify his decision.

Hundred partnership coming up for Handscomb and Ballance, you heard it here first.

Hence why we really needed to bring in more batting cover as Lees, Lyth and Leaning are far too inconsistent.

Just turned on and cannot believe we are batting first? Agree that unless Lyth gets big score in second innings then it is time for him to be dropped and Tattersall given chance as opener. Lyth needs to buckle down and leave the new ball more as an opener.

Anderson pulled up mid over and walked off the field.

Lyth, Lees and Leaning. 15 innings between them in CC now this season. One score of 50 between them.

Today's batting line-up is, for the umpteenth time since mid-2015, a triumph of hope over experience. The specialist batsmen end at 5, with three of them largely possessing that description due to the fact that aren't that good at bowling.

Ballance, this year's Jonny, could be off to England soon, just like Jonny. With him would go about half our runs.

No-one is seemingly waiting in the wings, like Coad in the bowling stakes.

Gale and Moxon gee each other up saying 'they'll come good'.

This batting line-up will get the odd good day, but will see us relegated (with a whimper).

A disappointing start from what is a thin batting lineup. Someone will have to hit a big one, or Sub-300 score beckons.

Can someone please suggest the available and affordable player we should sign as batting cover?

Not our job to suggest this, EY Tyke - people are paid handsomely by YCCC to find and sign good players. The club have had two years of brittle batting performances to ponder this and done nothing. I also don't accept your implication that it is unreasonable/unaffordable to expect YCCC to have a half-decent batting line-up. And at end of 2015, it was already much more of a priority than signing David Willey, which can't have been cheap. The last thing we needed was a non-batsman on the fringes of the England set-up.
