Reminds us how much we've missed seeing Ryan and Jack thundering in together. Bitter sweet pleasure this, knowing it's the last season we'll see it.

Great start but looking further ahead at the chances of keeping the skipper from the clutches of the ECB come July, another failure for Hameed isn't ideal!

Excellent start but hope Coad comes on soon before new ball shine fades too much.

Good morning but we need early wickets this afternoon, especially these two batsmen who are capable of massive scores. And Siddy delivers 😀

One's come second ball after lunch and it's the important one of the talented Davies. Ryan strikes.

Coad, so far, does not seem to be as effective without the new ball. A lot more expensive than usual and wicketless. Brooks & Siddy are our usual new ball bowlers though, so it`s a dilemma.

I should imagine that Coad would have been just as effective as sidders and brooks with the new ball.

unfortunately, not everyone can bowl with it.

Now we need wickets with an aging ball, much more difficult, who can deliver?

Rafiq?

Chanderpaul is one of the best batsmen of modern times. I would think getting him out twice and fairly cheaply will be our best chance of pushing on for a win. Otherwise, this will almost certainly end up as a draw.

Just seen a tweet by Yorkshire cc apparently Lancs are 1360-5. That is some going.

My money's on the draw, but hope I am wrong. We will know by the close of play today as they will have avoided the follow-on by stumps if they are still batting.

But after Bailey there isn't much to come. Still a long way to go before we call this one a draw

Not going so well after lunch and we need rid of Chanderpaul soon after tea, otherwise draw is looming 🙁
Not convinced we have used Coad to best effect with newer ball. Although we got early wickets, I feel Coad may have done even better but there has always been an order of priority/seniority in Gale's thinking with seam bowlers. Good that Rafiq has been used to try to keep seamers fresher but we need wickets before the next new ball and then finish the job with it.

Martin - after these 2 there is no batting left!!

Bailey's batting average is 16.92.

Stu - was being kind to Bailey! Presumably Anderson will only bat if they are near the follow on target?

We are still 12 overs before the new ball, so not convinced we should have Lyth bowling, especially as seamers will only have maximum of 14 overs until the close. We need at least Chanderpaul out before 80 overs. What on earth are we doing bowling Lyth and Leaning with only 20 overs remaining tonight? Bresnan has bowled only 8 overs today and Coad only 10 - weird strategy?

I've been thinking the same, but both captains seem to think it's a spinnners wicket. Even though no spinner has looked threatening

Coad has been brilliant all season with new ball when Siddy, Brooks etc have been unfit, so why bowl both of them and Bresnan before Coad today and also take him off after just 2 overs with second new ball. Then he bowls key man Chanderpaul with his 3rd ball but is it too late to be able to enforce follow on? Surely we could have utilised our seam bowlers better after the lunch interval? Wonder who decides bowler sequence - captain or coach?

Ultimately the captain decides that; he's the one in the middle assessing everything. One thing you can't do from an armchair is captain a cricket team.

Thanks Seadog, I know that as captain of cricket team in my younger days! However, today's use of Coad seemed very strange as he has done so well with new ball in all previous CC matches this season - that's all 😀
