Still can't believe the scheduling. Would it really have been a hardship for the ECB to put the RLC match back a day?

....or the following week, then we would have had the 5 England players. In fact any other week than next week.

But when, if ever, have the ECB ever considered domestic crickets needs when scheduling matches.

Surrey have a similar trip so although it's crazy it's crazy for both teams

Yorks vs Somerset pre-match thread

If England decide to give Bairstow a game, after all, Roy may be sent to Headingley for some white ball practice.

I don't think that's permitted as CT players cannot play for their counties during the tournament for fear of favouring the home team who can give their reserves match practice

One consideration with Carver is will Ballance bowl him? I'm with the majority that a 2nd spinner is required but there's little point if the Skip is uncertain about using him. For example in the 1st CC game v Hamps at Leeds, Shaw was picked but it was obvious Ballance didn't trust him and if effect he took little part in the game.

If the above is the reality, might as well go with 3 seamers, Rafiq and Lyth.

Can Cadmore play? Pack the batting especially as we'd like to bat first (subject to the toss)?

"Bresnan is a huge loss for us in this game. I’m afraid it’s typical of the ECB to delay publishing the fixture list long enough for such an important player to impregnate his wife at the most inconvenient time. Is there no end to their villainy?"

Think I remember reading that as far as current England contracted players are concerned Andrew Strauss must personally be present at the moment of conception so as to ensure there is no clash of dates nine months down the line.

Looking at tomorrows forecast, why not stick em in, as is our right, in damp and overcast conditions, and play 4 seamers, as we will only need one spinner, as we will not be bowling last. Our strength is in our seam attack, why not utilise it and bowl tomorrow morning.
