Re: Championship | Somerset vs Yorkshire at Taunton (Day One)

Can anyone explain to me why we've left out Brooks - unless he's injured....

It just feels to me like we've over-thought the selection process.
How have we ended up with a bowling attack of Sid, Patto, Waite, Rafiq and Carver...?

the last championship game was Brooks first game back, and i remarked he looked weary during that very long 45 over session. there is a load of fitness people on the staff.

Lees' form has been quite worrying for some time now something needs to give.

Just tuned in from Croatia to see surprising team selection and disappointing score at Taunton. Strange to see only 2 front line seamers but assume others are injured/unfit. Batting also looks thin but hopefully Leaning and Waite can do the business.

Stating the bleeding obvious to say that a partnership is needed. 91 off 38 overs doesn't suggest batting conditions are particularly easy mind you. Any observations from people at the ground?

I am already thinking an innings defeat here.

They're suggesting on the radio commentary that 300 would be a good score here - but now it's a big collapse - 95-6

16-4 since lunch. With our very much weakened bowling attack, and our long tail, this game has now gone. 3 days of rain and we may get a draw.

Turning into a disaster this innings. We have been shielded from the low productivity of Lees Lyth and Leaning by the outstanding form of Balance and Handscomb. They both failed today, and we look very exposed. Add in the fact that Bresnan isn't exactly setting the world alight and we clearly have problems.

T K-C isn't an established player with an average of 40, but at least he does give us an option, and you would think that he has to be tried in the longer form sooner rather than later.

What a horror thus far, may as well bring in young Harry Brook for Lees or Leaning.

The absolute worst case scenario, considering our injury-riddled attack. Alas, this is how you knock yourself out of the Championship race and fall into the drop zone. Hopefully, we can produce another one of our famous recoveries. Very grim though.

i can never understand why there are always calls for Hodd to be dropped. He is often the only batsman with any idea.

Looked a weak line-up. Hodd, thankfully, continues to go quietly about his business this season. I'd drop others before him if Jonny was to be sent back to have a game prior to the tests. Let's hope Hodd can get us up to somewhere near 200 and that it is a dodgy track.

Its slightly worrying that their wickets seem to have been shared among all the bowlers...

BUT.
Cricket is FOUR innings game - never judge a score until both sides have batted.
I may have said that before...

Come on Yorkshire!
