We could say this every week, but this feels like a huge game for our season.

A hundred ahead. If we say a minimum 230,we have a par chance. 230-50 a good chance and ideally 300 plus to make ourselves favourites.

The Essex/Surrey match will hppefully be a high scoring draw and Middlesex also need to pull the rabbit out of the hat.

Looking forward to today.

If we can get to 250+, just at the time the pitch becomes a minefield that would be perfect.

With India/South Africa in the background don't think I'm going to get much done today.

Fingers firmly crossed now. Please no repeat of the first innings collapse which started with Hanscomb being out.

We lost 6 overs yesterday, but they only added 4 overs today. I wonder why?

Handscomb gone, really need Jack to step up here as there's not a great of batting left to come.

As long as we get somewhere around a 240-260 lead minimum. We have a good chance.

another failure by Leaning - one of his last I would suspect

pitch causing less issues according to commentators with only slow spin so it may be difficult to assess a safe score

"really need Jack to step up here as there's not a great of batting left to come."

The new club motto.

I seem to have a knack of putting the mockers on. In regard to Leaning, this really does need addressing.

"We lost 6 overs yesterday, but they only added 4 overs today. I wonder why? "

Because it goes on time not overs. Had stumps had been at say 6.10 with 4 overs left no time would be added today.

stumps was at 5.45, 15 minutes before the schedule close of play....meaning an extra 15 minutes is played today making stumps 6.15....this means an extra 4 overs are added at the rate of 16 per hour.

or at least that is how i understand it

Speculation that pitch is going dead, worn out from overuse. 4th innings not a piece of cake for our bowlers. All the more important to build this lead.

KC will come in for Jack until the tests start, then Jack will be back.

I will expand

v Middlesex Lees, Lyth, Hanscomb, Ballance, KC.

v Surrey (floodlit - Root available, but no Gary as he is colour blind) so Lees, Lyth, Root, Hanscomb. KC.

After that, for the rest of the season Lees, Lyth, Hanscomb, KC, Leaning.

Dead pitch also means scoring will become harder, which I don't think suits the Somerset batting line up.

Five out of six wickets going to their spinners- I'm not sure the pitch is that easy to bat on against spin! Anything approaching 250 would be a very handy lead, whether our spinners are good enough to get as much out of the pitch as the Somerset pair- and whether Ballance actually gives Carver a chance to bowl this time- is a different matter... The bookies still make us favourites FWIW.

It's anyone's game at the moment. Another 50 and we are probably slight favourites.

Suspect anything over 200 will be hard to chase on this much used pitch - we will see shortly.

Typical Hodd really. Every run is precious at the moment, 250-60 would be very good indeed.
