Re: Championship | Somerset vs Yorkshire at Taunton (Day Three)

Probably time for Gary to gamble. Easier said than done by the looks of things

Typical Hodd? Did you miss the fact that he scored more than double what any of our other batsmen managed in the first innings then? Without that innings this game would already be over...

Seven out of eight wickets to spin now. I think Ballance needs to start to at least try to farm the strike or he's going to be left high and dry here.

Well let's hope it is becoming minefield after disastrous post lunch session with wickets tumbling - except for the skipper.

Clearly JG, thanks for pointing that out, I was completely oblivious of that fact. My point more in regard to Hodd's inconsistency with the bat overall.

Agree, this is right up there with his best innings

A bit unfair on Hodd. He did well in the first innings. You could hardly say that Yorkshire are Hodd carriers on this season's efforts.

Some players inconsistency is a reason for dropping them, others for patience and endless chances.

Ballance is just so in the test team in July. For pity's sake.

Hopefully with a few more runs and wickets, Carver can start to put Rafiq under pressure. Always nice to see a bit of healthy competition.

Great knock by Ballance, very unlucky not score another ton. If his England chance comes again I don't think anyone here should begrudge it, because he deserves it. I fancy us here and I have a feeling Carver is going to make a name for himself.

Well that's only the second time in seven innings this season that Hodd hasn't made it to at least 20, so I don't think your comment is fair at all. In fact I would argue that after Ballance and Handscomb, he's actually been our most reliable batsman so far this year.

Another vital innings from Ballance anyway, we're probably slight favourites in this position, but can Rafiq and Carver prove as effective as Leach and Bess?

Happy for Gary if he does get selected for tests (although seems a little early still), but would leave us very exposed.

Sadly I have to sat that way Ballance has been batting this season he deserves to be in the England team. I say sadly because I'm firstly a Yorkshire fan & for most of the season Ballance has been Yorkshire's battting. Hopefully (for us, but not Gary) Team England will ignore county scores & leave Ballance with Yorkshire, in the way they did with Bairstow in 2015.

There's no guarantee he will be picked, obviously, but he would be unlucky to miss out.

Hopefully they have someone from Middlesex or Surrey lined up for test batting (both under represented at present) happy.gif

I want to see how the spinners do but if Patto wants to take all 10 I won't be too severe on him.
