Re: Championship | Somerset vs Yorkshire at Taunton (Day Four)

June 12 2017, 12:14 PM

Having decided to include Caever in this match, we have not used him well and it looks like it could cost us dearly. Our CC chances are very much up in the air - and losing today could be a season changer. No point hoping that new ball might bring success as it will be too late .....

Somersets to lose now. All a bit frustrating but have to hand to Davis and Hose when they came in looked very bleak for the home side.

Carver got one - now Ballance, use him at one end and seamer at the other. Take Lyth off and do not bowl Rafiq before lunch.

Vital 30 mins to lunch. 2 more wickets and we win, 0 wickets and they win!!

Less than 100 to win and we are bowling a part timer.

Totally ridiculous - we get break through but still continue with Lyth. We need wickets now, not after lunch or new ball - too late.

Totally agree, but then Davies misses a short one which kept low and we are back in it.

Funny game cricket.

Still should get him off and Ryan on.

The same Lyth who's just got Davies LBW.....!
Lets leave the captaincy to the man who's on the pitch!

No one is slating the spinners per se without evidence to back it up.

Having selected two, you expect the skipper to use them and think it's a spinner friendly track. But we have then underused them

Sadly I don't see rafiq as a four day spinner but s very useful one day bowler. It's hard to judge Carver if not given a chance to bowl. But fair play to him now he has had a chance but it's too late in the match in my view. It's not easy of course when your seamers do well but Somerset prepare tracks and pick two spinners at home so there's the clue

Thanks due to Alibor and Dwight for getting that wicket !!

Will be good effort if we do win. Having a bowling attack without Brooks, Brez, Rash, Willey, Plunks and Coad would test any team.

Fair point..!

I think against Overton we need fast straight bowling.
Time for Sid i think.

I couldn't resist having a peek before lunch - one more wicket and we would be overwhelming favourites surely.

I notice that the captain is criticised for bringing on part timer Lyth only for him to take a wicket. Same criticism last season when Lyth was bowling in tandem with Rashid as Warwickshire at Headingley as they closed in on the target and we closed in on bowling them out. I am not at Taunton today, but I was there last season and it seemed completely the right thing do to. The ball was turning - Lyth was difficult to face and Rashid mopped up at the other end. Sometimes you just have to trust the captain to make the right calls.
