He does. Suppose he has more time to build an innings here but agree definitely bigger threat in their side.

Very cloudy at the ground - it will be a miracle if we escape rain i think.
No news about the team - i expect our correspondents in Nova Scotia will know the line up before we do.
Very meagre crowd - i'm working in the long room surrounded by people eating pies.

I wouldn't describe it as a big match atmosphere...

Would guess people will start to attend as work finishes, possibly the same for the pink ball stuff at the end of the month?

Surrey won the toss and elected to bat

Yorkshire Team
A Lyth, AZ Lees, JA Leaning, PSP Handscomb†, GS Ballance*, TT Bresnan, MJ Waite, Azeem Rafiq, MD Fisher, K Carver, BO Coad
Surrey Team
MD Stoneman, OJ Pope, KC Sangakkara, RJ Burns, BT Foakes†, SG Borthwick, SM Curran, TK Curran, GJ Batty*, R Rampaul, JW Dernbach

I would have preferred to bat, get a big score and let scoreboard pressure work on them, but we have what we have.

Very interesting group of young bowlers to support Bresnan. With Sidebottom, Brooks, Patterson, Plunkett and Willey either not available or selected, we have quite an array of seam bowling options and with Rashid, Rafiq, Carver and Lyth and Root for the spinners slot(s), three useful keepers and plenty of batsmen with a newcomer and two overseas stars we have real talent! Good luck today - with some early wickets, especially Sangakkara!

And Borthwick opening no doubt in pinch hitter role

Both today's umpires and tv umpire born in Yorkshire.....

No pinch hitting in evidence yet from Borthwick.

Well done Coad, that'll do nicely!

Talking of umpires, I've just looked at the Day 4 video of yesterday's Taunton game -- and Leach got a shocker.

Much worse than I thought (see post on Day 4 thread), it was quite high but also heading way off down leg. Watch it at 1:57 on the Day 4 video on the YCCC website.

Next time we grumble about a bad decision costing us, let's remember that's sixteen points we probably shouldn't have had!

We got out of jail yesterday, great performance though it was, but Sangakkara is a different kettle of fish altogether. Fully expect him to still be there when I next look in at 3pm

One over too many for Bresnan. Fisher better new ball wicket taking potential than Bresnan and we need Sanga out early.

Very happy with that opening burst. Solid but hardly spectacular start from Surrey. A wicket sooner rather than later would be helpful however!

As with yesterday, situation has improved on my return from meeting! I may nip out for a coffee in the hope of further wickets!

Surrey are just milking our bowling now and we do not look like getting a wicket. Another Sangakkara century seems inevitable.

We need a wicket PDQ or it will be 330 at least.

The position they are in they would surely target ten an over from here - so maybe 350 would be what they would hope for?

We are likely to be facing around 350 and I do not fancy our chances of getting anywhere such a total with our batting depth.
