next 3 CC matches

3 CC in a row, and nothing in between now until the T20 starts in July and it `s very likely we will have a different top 5 for every game.

Next week v Middlesex - same 5 as last week?

v Surrey the following week, no Gary (he is colour blind), but Joe available.

v Somerset no Joe, or Gary (in test squad?).

Does Jack get 3, 2 or 1 more chance.

Does KC come in and when?

Does Brook get his chance, and when?

Gut feeling

Middlesex --- Lyth, Lees, Hanscomb, Ballance, Leaning.

Surrey --- Lyth, Lees, Root, Hanscomb, KC (unless Jack does well at Lords).

Somerset --- Lyth, Brook, Lees, Hanscomb, KC.

Too soon for Brook for me.

It's complicated by the bonus of having Root and Bairstow available for some games and then whether Ballances rich vein of form puts him back in the England team.

I'd also prefer TKC to get s few runs in the 2s before picking in the 1s

I thought I read somewhere they thought they had found a solution to Gary Ballances colour blind problem.

Any prospects of releasing the England players for the Middx game (probably a silly suggestion I know). Suspect they would like Willey to play, but he wont get picket as things currently stand..

Assuming Bresnan is unavailable for the Middlesex CC game, it would be good if Yorkshire could negotiate with the ECB for Willey to play at Lords. Either miss the 1st T20i or allow for a like for like replacement to play on Day 3, whilst Willey commutes to Southampton. I am sure getting some match overs in ahead of the T20i series would be good preparation since Willey has barely bowled in the last few weeks.

If we are to bring Brook in, then Somerset at Scarborough would be the ideal start. A less demanding task then Middlesex at Lords and Surrey at Headingley with a pink ball, which we probably would not need him for anyway.

Rashid can play Vs Middlesex, Ballance says he's ok with pink ball now after bit of practice. TKC won't be playing in CC

Great news on two fronts.

If KC is not going to play in the CC, I assume it will be Brook for Ballance if Gary gets in the test side. Is it T20 only then for KC??

Too much speculation here. Is Ballance guaranteed a call up? No, of course not, no matter how well he's playing. There is a rumour that Moeen will move up to five as a specialist bat with Rashid coming in as the primary spinner. That would scupper Gary's chances if true.

Good news that I have read that Adil Rashid will be available for the next CC game at Lords v Middlesex.
Think Lords is a bit notorious for being a ground where the majority of games end up in draws in the Championship but hoping we can have the edge of them next week.
We certainly owe Middlesex one.

Lyth, Lees, Hanscomb, Leaning, Ballance, Hodd, Brooks, Sidebottom, Rashid, Bresnan, Coad

Would be my team.

I strongly suspect GB will not make the test team.......

It's not easy to tell who is in form and who isn't. When the four day game is so fragmented and disjointed with no continuity then do we know if Hameed and Jennings are ahead of the queue?

What about this seasons form players? Any gambles a la Duckett last year from div 2? Are any of the lions and ODI picks realistic candidates for the test team like Livingston?

Are Robson, Compton, Lyth, Ballance and Vince written off as tried and failed?

Will they persevere with Buttler as a test batsman? I sincerely hope not.

On form it's hard to see who would be ahead of Ballance.

The balance of the side is an issue here. Do the three all-rounders, Bairstow, Stokes, Ali, bat at 6-8, in my view a place too low. If they do, there is a place for another batsman at 5, and GB would be my choice. If not, there is room for an extra bowler, but is there any need, unless it was for a second spinner (please God no, I'd rather lose Balance than Rashid)? My own solution would be to play a wicket-keeper. Anyone remember them?

I'm happy to minimize disruption.

Its possible Lyth, Lees, Ballance and Hanscomb will play all three.

Leaning may play all three and I'd be amazed if he doesn't play v Middlesex and Surrey, other than to make way for Root (v Surrey). Rhodes may get the nod at Scarborough if Leaning continues to struggle.

Is Brook ready? Maybe, but I'd be very surprised if he features in the games under discussion here bar Ballance being selected for the test squad and injury to one of the others including Rhodes.

Just a thought re Gary Ballance's colour-blindness. If he actually does have problems with the pink ball would England really want him when they have day/night Tests in August and November? Surely they won't want to slot someone in and out again for one Test in each series, particularly Ashes? Will be interesting to see what happens in the Surrey game. Could work in our favour for the rest of the season.

I too would be surprised to see Gary back in the test reckoning until the ashes touring side is picked at the earliest.

Think England will want to give Hameed and Jennings an extended run in the side for the two series in England.

If Gary stays in his current form he will be difficult to ignore though and might be in pole position to come in at short notice in case of an injury.

England don't change much. I expect test wise it will be:

Cook Hameed Jennings Root ? Stokes Bairstow WK.
The ? will either be Ali (Rashid bats 8), Buttler (Bairstow to 5) or Ballance.

My oreference would be Vince who I feel deserves another go.

Why, exactly?
