I'd be suprised if either Fisher or Brook play, then it's just a case of which seamer gets left out.

Looks like we might get a full four days play in.

Possibly 33 Celsius in London - let's hope we win the toss!

Lovely day for batting if we went back in time to when people batted in their caps.

Must be a nightmare these days.

I can't see Brook playing but I'd be perfectly happy if he did.

I've got absolutely no reason to believe it - but i just have a feeling that Harry Brook might get a game today...

For whom Steve? I think his debut will be v Scarborough to replace Ballance, who will be in the test squad.

Hopefully we take advantage of the boot being on the other foot, for a change, re absentees. They have more missing than us. Helm, Malan, Gubbins, Morgan, & Voges all out. I realise Morgan is not a regular, but they would have brought him in with 3 batters out. Their batting looks lightweight.

Don't you understand the romance of cricket - you make your debut at Lords and score a brilliant century before lunch.......
Its written in the stars.

Tend to agree Stu

One of those rare occassions where the other side is hit worse than us by call-ups. It looks on paper like a good time to be playing them. On Brook, hard to see exactly how he might fit in today. I agree in terms of him having to wait for a gap.

A contributor to the Middlesex 'Til We Die forum writes:

" This is the slow terminal strangulation of County Cricket, rendering it fit to be killed off by the ECB in about 5 years' time.

Brilliant weather, and even if it wasn't quite so hot, it's the height of the cricket season, yet the majority of county players are not playing, and haven't played for ages.

Says the ECB : "Oh, well, we have to try to raise the standard, and make it more important that when a batsman gets in, he really makes the most of this opportunity, ditto the bowlers really working for their wickets..............."

Yet the only way you get into form is to play, and at a sufficiently challenging level that you don't fall into bad habits. Batters need to be in the middle, bowlers get into form from bowling.

At this rate, all our players will have forgotten what format of match they are supposed to turn up to play in, and what a bat looks like, let alone having anything approaching form.

Thank goodness none of our players (including England squad members) have injured themselves by being anywhere near a cricket ball recently!!!!!!!

Guardians of the game - my @rse!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Perhaps we have more in common with our Southern brethren (among whom I dwell) than we think....

I would have no problem with Brook coming in at five for Leaning, although that would make the century before lunch a bit of an ask!

In that case Seadog I would certainly hope he wouldn't get a century before lunch! Although with our history of top order failings and unlikely heroes I wouldn't rule it out.

Cricinfo has Brook down as already having made his FC debut for Yorkshire against Pakistan A last year. And not with notable success!

Congrats on his CC debut, though.

Weird - just had a feeling he'd be playing..
I'll be there on Thursday afternoon as long as i can get out of seeing the matinee of On the Town at Regent's park Open air Theatre...

I'd love a decent finish.
Looks like a day for batting.
Century for Harry before lunch tomorrow.

Who had a hit with Hurry Up Harry....?

5/6 CC games today went to a toss. All the winners are batting! Only Leics bucking the trend. Could be a long hot day in the field, though our attack looks good if we can break through early. If.

Steve C, it was Sham 69.
