It`s the battle of the "overseas" players at OT. Lancashire have 4, Hampshire trump them with 5.

Can not see what is wrong with each County being allowed 1.

Samit is in fine form for Notts.

His last 4 innings --- 212no today, 122no, 66, 257no.

657 runs for once out!!

I always thought he wasted his talent through not being prepared to knuckle down fitness-wise.
With his SLA he should have been a regular in the England squads.
Similarly Ravi Bopara who is back to scoring runs, could/should have been in the oneday England squads if not the Test side.
I can't help but feel they've both rather squandered their undoubted talent.
Kyle Abbott again showing what a good Kolpak addition he's been for Hampshire.
Local boy George Bailey doing well too.

As has been said recently though, how many games has Samit Patel missed through injury?

The best case we can really hope for is two more draws in the other matches. Not convinced Lancs or Warks have what it takes to hold on though. Essex still going at an average run rate despite being 140 overs into their innings with the current partnership nearing 200.

Interesting first 4 for the Lions. All openers - Stoneman, Hameed, Jennings & Gubbings. I wonder which 2 will join Cook in the England team. Hameed already out!!

Division 2, so of only academic interest, but anyone else thinking Leics might be regretting the decision to insert Notts?

At current rate I suggest Yorkshire adopt the four openers policy as the first two don't tend to last that long

Some lad called Bairstow is batting for England against South Africa 2s in a T20 friendly at the moment. Anyone know who he is?

4 Openers policy will only work if it means we are allowed to play 13.

I wouldn't be surprised if Stoneman got the nod for England, with Jennings at three as in this match. I still have a hunch Moeen will move up to five with Rashid coming in as the primary spinner. That would of course mean no place for Ballance.

Essex and Lancs both look well-placed at the start of the fourth day's play. Watch with interest.

Don't really mind a Lancashire win, if Warwickshire can hold out, think they will need some help from the weather, that would be beneficial.

Essex and Lancashire both have their opponents in deep deep trouble.

Essex look the real deal this season, still unbeaten and looking very serious Championship contenders. They do play Middlesex next week, so perhaps we may have a truer picture then.

Down to third after todays matches are finished, but Surrey & Middlesex have a game in hand so 5th place not to far away.

Looks like Somerset & Warwickshire are going to be well adrift of the other 6 (40/50points), so unless there is a remarkable recover by either of them, those 2 will be going down.

Innings wins for Lancs, Middx and Essex due to them scoring a lot of runs and scoreboard pressure telling on the opposition. Sigh!

Hope we can get 450/500 on the board some time soon!

Given that his last five scores for them have all been in the 30's, I don't think that they will miss him too much.

Amir replaces Wagner from next week as their overseas player, so Essex will be even stronger than now.

Lancashire may well live to regret the first game of the season at Chelmsford when they decided AGAINST enforcing the follow-on after bowling Essex out for 150.

Lancs declared 3 wickets down setting Essex 480 to win (earlier declaration?), but were unable to bowl Essex out a second time - it was the nearest the leaders have been to defeat this season.
