Other matches

Probably of more interest today than events at Headingley.

Will Essex thrash Middlesex by an innings? Can't get my head round who I want to win that one. Perhaps a draw might be preferable in terms of fewer points being awarded to benefit us.

And the closer finish may be the Lankys v Warwickshire with the red rose 130 ahead but six wickets in hand.

I'm a Middlesex supporter for a day.

I've already spent one evening this week urging on one unlikely hero (Andrew Umeed of Warwickshire).

Looks like Middleex will do well to hang on here already 2 down - if Essex win they are going to open up a big gap at the top of CC

Well, if Essex pull off a win, they will be 42 points up on the Tykes and our Championship aspirations would be all but mathematically over.

Congratulations to Derbyshire, first win for a couple of season. Hope it's the first of many.

Middlesex 56 away from making Essex bat again with 5 wickets left. (Can't believe I'm writing this with such gusto).

Harmer got 14 wickets in his last match and 13 in this match so far.

Can Middlesex hang on??

Have to congratulate the Essex boys - they're looking unshiftable on top now. Also what a debut for the Millennium child.

I am right in saying he's not in the SA test squad ? Incredible

Has he done like Abbott and chosen his future in CC - can't get my head round this Abbott is also o bowling brilliantly for Hants

I believe he is also a Kolpak yes. I don't want to criticise Essex too much as they have a fine crop of homegrown players but it still leaves a sour taste in the mouth with him taking nearly three quarters of their wickets in the last two matches.

Sid -- Harmer is a spinner, and it is Somerset next week.

One or two thrilling finishes! Essex now in the driving seat. We could have a big say in whether they win it.

Essex seem to have the main things you need - a bit of luck and a new player bursting through the ranks that nobody knows...

... and 2 GOOD "yorkie" coaches, who we could have had ourselves, going back a few years.
