Not a great day for batting looking at forecast.

Wrap up warm and keep up a flow of hot drinks if going.

Big chance for the two youngsters at the crease but let's not be too quick to criticise them in conditions like today's cloudy day and against a couple of decent seamers able to exploit conditions.

We've certainly had some rain overnight.

Not heavy rain at the the moment, just drizzly and grey.

We need a bit of luck to push this bad weather a bit further north to hopefully get the players on the pitch later in the day.

Don't blame me!

July 4 2017, 9:00 AM

It's dry at the moment Stu. Grey but clouds quite high bad light not an issue.

Not much more in my water butt so it didn't rain vert much.

If they were starting in half an hour I'd be on my way.

Problem is the forecast, heavier rain coming this way from the East.

On my weather map Scarborough gets it, Filey doesn't.

Fine margins I think.

I don't do rain radar so that's the best I can do.

Day 2

July 4 2017, 9:41 AM

Important that we take things a step at a time and not worry about scoring rate.First task is to pass the follow on target which, if we are still batting, should be around lunchtime (weather permitting). After that look at reaching 200, and then , of course,250+. Question is can we do all of those things. If we do it will have been a very successful day? If not who knows? Maybe, then, we rely on the weather to save us. Obviously , we are not, anticipating defeat but that will become a real possibility if we don't avoid the follow on.Personally, if the 2 young lads can see us through the first half hour, I think we should achieve the first 2 objectives stated in my second sentence. Weather permitting it will be a pivotal day.

i was going to go today but i'm afraid the weather - and various injuries - deterred me..
That almost certainly means a record stand between Mr Brook and K - C which people will be talking about for years to come...

How was the ground yesterday?
Any improvements or additions i should know about.

The rope has gone around a few times.
But, the practice wicket covers have gone back on. So have the Square covers. Full set of covers now on.
Somerset still out there. Extra Time & penalties lurking I fear.
YCCC out there doing some running & jumping.

Arduous stuff, I'm hoping we can at least get up to around the 200 mark, anything beyond is a bonus.

Little targets, don't think too far ahead. 100, then avoidance of follow-on, etc.

This is incredibly hard work on a traditionally free-scoring ground...

Can Marsh play instead of Handscomb? He got 91 in warm up v Sheffield yesterday....

Can't be harsh on Brook and K-C. It's the rubbish before which has put the middle order in this position AGAIN.

Speaking of being harsh, again its difficult when most of our top batsmen are away playing for The Rest of the World ( i wont call them England as England persistently pick overseas players, but thats a different argument) but Lees, Lyth and Hanscomb are hardly rookies. Time for change at the top of the order.
