I couldn't go to this match. Can't say I'm sorry.

I said Somerset didn't deserve to lose at Taunton. Quite clear we deserved to lose today.

Not a single decent innings played by any batsman.

Alibor is right, all teams don't play football as a warm up..................some play rugby or Aussie rules!

I'm glad we've cleared up who's to blame for our poor form....

Gale
Moxon
the players
the specialist coaches
the people who appointed the coaches
Specifically Andrew Hodd
The ECB

Maybe it's the fact we have limited resources and a majority of our players are, at various points during the season, away with England. If any other club suffered the same I firmly believe they'd be in a worse position than us.
To call this group of players a "rabble" or "pathetic" is in my view, very harsh.

You may be right, Alibor, but I've certainly seen several international teams do this in recent years - including today's combatants, England and South Africa.

>> However, everyone is entitled their opinion and this aspect of pre match warming up is not an issue in our team's current demise.

Agreed!

These are the same players - by and large - that have given us enormous pleasure and success over the last few years.
No-one loses on purpose.
They deserve our support and our respect. We're supporters - that means we should support them.
Everyone tried.
Cricket is a game - that means you lose sometimes and you should respect your opponents who played well.
Days like this only make future victories sweeter.
Its sport. No-one died.

We move on to the next game..
Keep the Faith.

Just hearing on TMS that Brook has a suspected broken hand, picked up before play this morning!

Handscomb 34
Leaning 28
Lees 25
Hodd 25
Lyth 22
Bresnan 18.

We can hide behind call ups if we want, but this is nowhere near good enough.

"Everyone tried"

I sure hope everyone didn't. If that's what they achieve when trying, we have serious problem.

Problem is we set a standard in 14/15 and the other counties have been playing catch up...well they have not just caught up but passed us, the problem is we have not continued to improve which great teams do, either by excellent replacements or innovation/dedication - see All Blacks as the best example. To do this you need a quality coach - we do not have this. I think Moxon has been a great servant but it is time for a new approach so he goes as does Gale/Pyrah... Why make Balance the captain when it was always possible we might lose him...maybe Lythe might have be been a better bet?

Obviously we have many selected for England but test match wise going forward it is only going to be Root and Bairstow. Questions about Rashid as a red ball bowler, he seems to have really gone backwards and an aging seam attack... Willey was not a great pick in my view and has not developed. Major overhaul needed.

A shockiing result, and against one of the league's bottom feeders. With every other team having matches in hand, the appallingly poor form of our top order batsmen, injuries to our attack piling up, and our best batsmen off on England duties, we are in obviously now in relegation troubles.

The question is how do Yorkshire recover and go on to manufacture the two wins we'll likely need to assure that we don't get demoted? This is certainly a team crisis, that many us saw coming, but which the club does not seem to have been prepared for.

Are you seriously suggesting that our players weren't trying..?
Of course they were. Sometimes you're out of form - or the other team played better - but we have absolutely no reason to question their effort or commitment.

So just technique, application, understanding of the game situation, mental toughness, and judgement then....seems enough to be worried/complain about

Nope, he was practising 'cricket-related skills' like a good professional :D

From YCCC Twitter: "Harry Brook has a suspected broken right hand suffered in nets this morning."

We are, in affect, 3rd bottom, as Surrey & Middlesex have a game in hand, so even if they lose they would possibly go ahead of us by picking up enough bonus points.

No use talking of major changes, as there is no-one else we can bring in to replace the mis-firing top 5 plus if Brook has a broken hand, we need to find a replacement for him as well. The only possibility is Marsh for Hanscomb.

The bowling is fine, and we would not have been chasing 300 plus without Siddy`s and Liams injuries. More like 180, but even so that would have been to much for our fragile batting line-up.

Gale has got a big job on now. That is, after all, the coaches primary function - to get the best out of the players he has available. He has to get the players playing up to their undoubted ability. Is he up to the job? I suggest we give him to the end of the season to see if he can turn things around. If not, we have to consider during the winter if it was the correct appointment. We do need to give him time and a chance to rectify things. We need a massive improvement from the first five, or relegation is a real possibility.

We were going to go today but had a look at the forecast and decided to go to the Hepworth Gallery instead. Wise decision and the gallery was very interesting too. I will be at Scarborough in August though and just hope we can improve, although credit has to go to C Overton too.

YCC will not change anything before the end of the season but if Gale saves us from relegation is that good enough - we were many so called experts favourites, so whatever he does we will have not reached expectation... A poor, easy appointment that should have never been made...I am trying to think in the modern game who has been successful moving straight from player to first team coach, the fact that no one quickly springs to mind makes the point. YCC would not make the hard decision last year when they should have dropped him due to poor form and removed the captaincy but instead let's make him coach...in most forms of work posts have to be advertised to open competition.

Brook, I assume, batted with a broken hand. If it is broken, I suspect today will be the last we see of him this season

I'm surprised about the Brook's hand being damaged in thbe nets. Harry was got out by another short ball that reared up on him & when we saw hs hand in ice we just thought he'd gloved it.

Sadly this has been the match that officially turns us from chasing after Essex to looking over our shoulder at the teams below us. The team have 'lost it'. The obwling isn't good, we are dropping catches (in the first innings Bresnan cost us 50 runs) & the batting is officially apalling. KC showed it, hiting a boundary to cheer us up, the next ball was a simple edge to slip.

This morning Zum hit out at will, although Coad did cause the odd ball to seam away. Thier bowlers looked faster & better than ours. Eventually Leach was brought on & although he did get 'some' tap he took wickets.

Yes I'm living up to my forum name.

I'm also worried that our next 'proper' match is against Essex again at Scarborough. If a similar 'green tinged pitch' is produced I fear that Essex will hammer us even worse than Zumerset have today

Nothing gained by panic.
We've been playing poorly for most of the season and in that context defeats by Somerset and Middlesex are unsurprising. Well done Yorkshire for managing a victory at Taunton.
Such is the quality of cricket in this division, a struggling team will be picked to pieces by talented opposition.

Yorkshire have three batsmen playing for England; the rest are either out of form or finding their feet at this level. The bowling is ageing and has been shredded by injury. The fielding and catching reflects a lack of confidence that has spread like a virus through the team.

Maybe the break will be beneficial and individuals can repair morale in the 20/20 or in the nets. I suspect though, that the problems are more intractable than that. I expect us to be struggling to avoid relegation. This won't be easy. Warwickshire are on a similar slide.
The best way we can all help the team is by being as sympathetic and understanding as possible and by attending as often as we can in the most positive of spirits.

Incidentally, Gale is receiving very unfair treatment from several on the forum. What on earth do we all know about the dressing room dynamic or about the tactical input?
He deserves as much support and encouragement as the rest of the team at a critical time.

Oh. And don't expect miracles in the short format. What on earth is different from previous years?

Relegation just won't happen.

It's human nature to look at the teams below and think "if they win....." they are at the bottom for a reason. They DON'T win very often.

Somerset are no mugs, but only one once and have six(?) Games left, I would th they would have to win 3, at least, to overhaul us.

They won't.
