Other t20 games

They seem to be coming thick and fast and in the absence of anything else to watch on 900 channels I end up being drawn in each evening if the wife is out.

Last night Derby chased down Worcts decent score of 180 odd with relative ease. Some of the bowling on both sides was rank awful with derby using the spin option of Luis Reece (ex Leeds Met Uni and Lance) which he had only started practicing on Sunday. Some impressive big hitting from Clarke, Whiteley and the Duke John Hastings but Derby used several spin options including Reece Madsen but sadly not the new Afghanistani born wunderkid Qadri.

In reply they chased them down at a canter thanks to Godleman nearly batting through and Madsen using all his hockey skills to reverse hit/sweep/pull according to Allott Butch and Corky in the pod.

Good to see a game not dominated by expensive overseas hires but frankly the quality of the bowling was woeful along with the catching (or dropping) with skipper Leach dropping a dolly (perhaps wholly appropriate in view of him playing for Worcestershire) and then debutant Broderick dropping a sitter which made you think he missed out on Grandads genes as the old boys were keen to let us know his grandad was former 1970s keeper Colin Boulton.

Can't help but feel Wainwright is a better spin option than Reece for Derby but they let him go too soon. And Worcester needed another big hitter at the top of the order but the promising Kohler Cadmore seems to have moved away....

Did anyone else notice a lady sat in the Derbyshire dug-out with pads on ready to bat!!

Was she playing or just trying out the pads for size?

The result put Yorkshire's defeat at Chesterfield into better context.
There seems to be a confidence about Derbyshire's play which hasn't been evident in recent seasons.
Worcester appeared low on confidence; a long way from the side which beat us convincingly in the 50 over competition.
I'll be interested tonight to see what sort of a fist Leicestershire make of their match against Durham.

Yes agree entirely re Derby result v us and meant to say so in OP.

Cork involved with the bowlers (who were the weak link in my view) but his energy and fighting spirit with t20 experience on the pitch will make a difference to sides like Derby whereas we don't seem to have embraced the idea of specialist t20 coaching.

Vettori at Middlesex brought in just for t20. Is it just to join his ex NZ mates like Franklin and McCullum or is it because he has global t20 experience to add to the mix? I suspect results may sway you but I think he will offer something more that we miss with Gale and Pyrah

The chase

July 20 2017, 5:27 PM

I quite enjoy watching the last 10 or so overs of the chase of whatever match is on. Bit one-sided last night but Kent v Glouc on Tuesday was good, with the added bonus that the result had no consequences for our league position.

Durham, still stuck on minus 4 points, can do us a favour by pegging back Leics tonight.

Both Leicestershire & Derbyshire going well in our Group. Would not be surprised if those are two of the 4 qualifiers in our group.

The pre-tournament favourites Notts, without Lumb & Fletcher along with Ball & Broad, look like they will now struggle, Northants, last years winners, have Prasanna & Azhurullah injured and out for the whole tournament and Durham with their points deduction look very unlikely qualifiers. Sticking my neck out I will go for Leicestershire, Derbyshire, Lancashire & Yorkshire as the top 4 in our group (not neccessarily in that order).

The three home matches over the next six days will go a long way to deciding our fate I think. Win all three and we've a very good chance, win two and we're still in with a small chance, lose two and we'll have a mountain to climb. Just hope the weather allows us to get on the field to give ourselves a chance.

Durham look very poor, especially in their batting, so I don't think they will be doing us a favour tonight, even though they restricted Leics.

No Overseas, poor crowd, demoralised looking team, well done ECB.

What have cricinfo done, hate the new scorecards.

It's alarming the amount of overseas or kolpacks on show tonight. Leics had 6, Hants had 6, and most of the the teams this season have averaged 4 or 5.

At least Durham are not abusing the system.

Durham can't afford to abuse it having breached salary caps before and been hammered with points deductions for financial mismanagement.

Last night they had Stokes in the pod. Surely he could have played with the next test a week away

Meanwhile in south London the KP circus came to town as he began with a comedy sketch in the pod claiming he could bat in englsndcurrent toporder with no pads and left handed. Perhaps he could have a net on this basis first facing Morkel and Rabada as he will have their mobile numbers in his phone based on his previous series against South Africa.

Then he ambles out at number 3 with Finch on fire at the other end. He bats right hsnddd with pads on, sets off for a single and manages to run out Finch in the process. Then he remembers he has a dicky calf so needs treatment and a runner. But three days ago he didn't manage to field in the second innings due to the same injury so this should not have been allowed surely.

Once out he returns to the dugout and fails to appear for the twenty overs of fielding. Surrey should not have been allowed a replacement in my view as again it was a pre match injury.

To cap it all Stirling came out to bat at three for Middlesex and was told he couldn't bat for another ten minutes as he had been off the pitch for the end of the Surrey innings.

You couldn't make it up.

Clearly Surrey and the ECb are desperate to get bums on seats and want their star names to play at any price sacrificing fairness and the spirit of the game.

Cricket once again moves nearer to an American sport but this time American Football as teams can select squads and allow different players to do specialist roles and then sit in the dugout watching once they have batted.

The sooner he goes back to finish his lodge in Africa or to join another t20 circus elsewhere the better.

Agree TU. Only picked up the interview and the details on Sky Sports late last night as I was at Headingley, and it was, as you stated, a complete circus, and should not have been allowed to happen. Finch looked to be fuming when he was run out.

Hopefully Finch made his feelings on the matter clear. KP will see last night as a success, he has the headlines, what more could anyone want?

There was are replay of the match on Sky today, and at the end Hussain made matters a lot worse by stating "Everyone had come to the Oval to see KP play, so it would have been a big disappoinment for all if he hadn`t, so that was ok that he played"

So it`s ok to break the rules and etiquette of cricket just for 1 player!! He came into the match injured,so he should not have been allowed a runner or a sub fielder. Simple as!!

Northants have some big guys. Duckett, Levi & Kleinveldt have been on the pies!!

They make Samit look slim.

The big boys will be sick as parrots losing that on D/L.

Don't know if the rain was expected so early but shows how important it is to get your noses in front when chasing.

Does peg Northants back and a win tomorrow could see us go top.
