Decent forecast

July 26 2017, 8:18 AM

It will be interesting to see how many turn up for this one as a measure of how popular non Friday night games are. Listened to the Leics/Bears game last night and the attendance was described as pitiable.

Bit of a wet day but due to be sunny and reasonably warm by early evening. Kids are on holiday, 18:30 start, team top of the table, local rivals, so it has all the ingredients for a decent turnout.

It being on Sky will discourage some but it also encourages others who like to get their faces on TV.

I wasn't going to go but I enjoyed Sunday so much I'm making a late decision.

Three home games in six days? As a spectator, it is a big commitment in time and money especially if the whole family is going. Playing the t20 competition as a block has advantages, but it is still spread over six weeks and there are only seven home matches, so surely they can do better than this with the fixture planning? Or is it intentional so that the ground staff only have to prepare one pitch for three matches?

I think the players want a blocked competition, the supporters would prefer the matches spread over the season..

Weather wise -- a blocked comp., and a week of bad weather, and 3 matches might be lost. Whereas that would not be the case if spread throughout the season.

Having said that, why do we have a week of CC matches slap bang in the middle of a so called "blocked" tournament.

The will be some sort of game

July 26 2017, 11:34 AM

Following previous precedent, there will be some sort of game tonight one the SKY cameras are there!

I remember a televised 40 over League Game (I think 2005)in August on a mid week evening. It had rained most of the day. There was standing water all over the ground, but the SKY floodlights were there. A reduced overs game started at 7pm, fielders could not stand up, Derbyshire won.

Ironically it was a Division 2 game, Yorkshire pushing for promotion. If it had been No Result, Yorkshire would have been promoted that season!

I will wait, if it stops raining by 3.30pm there will be time for a reasonable (12 overs or more) game so I will probably go.

If it is an 8 over thrash, I will go home and watch it on Sky.

Sun poking out now 3 miles from ground and stopped raining, cant see anything else but a full match looking at the forecasts.

It will be a full match, the forecast is for the rain to stop about now, then bright & sunny for the rest of the day. 5 hours plus to dry the pitch out should be ample.

Combine three matches in a week with doubtful weather and the recipe is there for a decline in attendance.
This has already become apparent. Perhaps the Counties themselves called for the most recent change to the way the fixtures are offered to the public - I don't know. If they did, they weren't as concerned about attendance as they sometimes profess.
I'm sure the ECB will be indifferent to a drop in over all attendance. Any substantial increase would only serve to undermine their narrative concerning the future of short form cricket.

Incidentally, I attended Derbyshire's match against Lancashire yesterday, which was played in lovely weather and in front of a close to capacity crowd. A good result for Yorkshire and an excellent game for Luis Reece who played with more composure and maturity than I've ever seen from him before. Derbyshire may well qualify for the quarter final stage this year.

I remember the match Peel Park posted about. I was working in Leeds so it's probably 2004. I texted a mate to say don't bother & also went home. I remember Darren Lehman being interviewed on Sky about the state of the outfield his answer was basically "It won't matter time as I won't be going out there" ... All said with a massive smile on his face

Fair play to Durham with an essentially fully home grown team and no overseas players. A combination of no money and points deductions means they may just be going through the motions this season. Dangerous for us then as in t20 it only takes one bloke to come off and win it single handedly

Apart from Collingwood, Rushworth and Richardson (all dangerous on their day) I don't know a lot about their XI, which makes them even more dangerous.

Evening ruined already by Allott and clown motormouth Flintoff in the commentary box, sound down for a bit then! What Sky see in this pair is beyond me. At least we're playing Durham and not Lancs.

See we've started playing up to our usual standards when the Sky cameras are here.

Apparently Allott thinks Kohler Cadmore previously played for Derbyshire in this competition.

Given recent performances, if Handscomb is the answer I'm not quite sure what the question is.

Hodd is by no means a T20 specialist, but I can't help thinking that he wouldn't be doing any worse than Handscomb is at present?

Agreed. Walking down the track with the keeper standing up seems a strange decision.

Experience of Wor Colly and Rushworth doing the damage.

We never win on Sky....

Needs managing well from here at 114/6 off 15, easy to be all out for 130. Controlled aggression might get us to 165(ish).

Rather typical Yorkshire performance after winning matches easily, but not reading conditions and following stereotyped strategy. Durham and our old foe Collingwood read the conditions and would have bowled first given the likely movement after rain and s slow outfield. If we can reach 150 it could be winning score but only if we bowl and field well. 5 successive dot balls to Bresnan?!

What a tool Flintoff is. Going on about how Collingwood looks like Steve Davis.
