Willey's injury looked pretty bad, doubt he'll play. Lees will probably replace him, we can cover his bowling fairly easily

I'd give Lyth the first over, we did well the year Root bowled the first over

Waite for me

Presume we have lost Willey which is a shame.

Whatever you may think of his bowling he is a possible match winner with the bat.

I think I'd go for Waite rather than Lees as a replacement.

Might even think about batting Plunkett at 3.

He was lost against the death bowlers yesterday but might prosper earlier on.

A good call Geoff, I would also go for Waite if Willey is injured. I find Lees similar to Marsh in this format soaking up far too many balls for not a great return.

I would prefer Waite for Willey, if David is not fit. He does give us the extra bowler, just in case, as well.

We have had a very poor return this season so far from our overseas players, especially in this comp. Hanscomb, Marsh & Safraz all eat up far to many dot balls, and Safraz, at the last count, has missed three catches and three stumpings and let several byes through which should have been stopped. Not impressed at all with any of the three.

Pakistan are not renowned for producing great keepers. The last one of any quality was probably Wasim Bari

Looking at the table, I think we still need two wins to qualify.

Derbyshire have a game in hand and play the bottom three sides, so will probably finish above us, and Notts look certain to finish top. Northants & Warwickshire (the teams, with us, fighting for 3rd & 4th place) both have Durham to play, who are currently in the last place.

PCB recalling Sarfaraz (among others)

Not sure if it affects today's game.

Oh for goodness sake. Why does that happen to us every year? Sign a player who we think will be available for the whole tournament only for them to be called up by their country. Is de Kock still in the country?

Agree we definitely need two wins. One might be enough but would most likely need Lancs to do us a favour against Warwickshire (but not so much that they overtake us on run rate) and Leicester to lose one more (should we lose today)

Juniad Khan of Lancashire NOT on the list of recalled players. They have to be back in Pakistan by the 22nd of August, so two more matches for Safraz.

Leicester won the toss, we bat first.

I suspect, just what we wanted.

Willey plays.

Worth remember though that this isn't headingley. Scores of around 170 seem to be par at Grace Road.

Well done to Cadmore, he's really coming on in this format and well pleased for him.

Growing on me

August 12 2017, 3:12 PM

Tom, I feel we know each other well enough now to be on first names terms, is growing on me. Nice little partnership developing.

You can have too much of a good thing and Leics may have more bowling options than are good for them. We'll see.
