Yorkshire name a 13-man squad for the final NatWest T20 Blast group game.

Club Captain Gary Ballance is playing for the 2nd XI against Durham on Tuesday and Wednesday to test his fitness, before joining up with the squad on Thursday.

Overseas wicketkeeper-batsman Sarfaraz Ahmed will play his final game of the campaign for the Yorkshire Vikings.

Yorkshire’s 13-man squad to face Northants Steelbacks:

Gary Ballance, Tim Bresnan, Matthew Fisher,
Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Jack Leaning, Adam Lyth, Shaun Marsh, Steven Patterson, Liam Plunkett, Azeem Rafiq, Adil Rashid, Sarfaraz Ahmed (W), David Willey.

The skipper is back. Do we play him, as he has not played for us yet this season in this comp. so can hardly be expected to be in any kind of form?

If he plays who do we leave out for him?

I'd be surprised if he was included in the squad only to not play. Leaning to miss out?

Gary Ballance must play or he would be ineligible for the knock-out stages should we qualify.

Leave out Sarfraz - Ballance is probably a tidier keeper!

Ballance would be a more like for like replacement for Marsh in the way that they build an innings. But with the more explosive finishing power.

I suspect it'll be Leaning to miss out though, seen as he wasn't even entrusted to bat above Rashid against Leics.

TKC
Lyth
Willey
Marsh
Ballance C
Sarfraz WK
Bresnan
Plunkett
Rashid
Rafiq
Patterson

That would be my 11, however I personally would play Waite instead of Patto.

Waite can't bowl at present, would be madness to play him ahead of Patto.

JollyD --- "Gary Ballance must play or he would be ineligible for the knock-out stages should we qualify."

On that basis, does that mean Root & Bairstow will not be eligible for Finals day (if we get there)?

I thought the ruling on eligibility was "being signed up" or words to that affect. What happens if one of your regular players gets injured and misses all the group games, surely if he recovered from his injuries, he would still be allowed to play in the k/o stages.

According to the playing conditions, I think it is only "non-qualified" players who have to have played in the group stages (it is silent on qualified players). So Ballance would be OK:

In order to be eligible to represent a County in a match in the Finals Stage of the NatWest T20 Blast and/or the Finals Stage of the
Royal London One-Day Cup an Unqualified Cricketer must have been:
(a) registered by that County and played in at least one match for that County in the Group Stages of the relevant Competition;
and/or
(b) registered by that County and named in that County’s squad for an abandoned match in the Group Stages of the relevant
Competition; and/or
(c) registered by that County for a match in the Group Stages of the relevant Competition and obtained a medical certificate to
confirm that he was unfit to play in that match.

Unfortunately the heavy rain of an hour ago has made way for warm sunshine so looks like we will have to endure another 40 overs of pain

Strange views

Some supporters have some strange views.

Moving on.

Bit of a conundrum with Ballance being available.

Non playing captains advisory role for me.

Am keeping an eye on this one too - how on earth are we going to find a way to throw this away?
Great stuff from Lyth.

Too little too late even if we do manage to avoid throwing it away. You can guarantee that if a win guaranteed our progression we would contrive to lose.

Looks like 6 hammerings dished out and lost the 5 that have gone remotely tight.

Going to need a couple of the 4 matches to go our way tomorrow, if Leics win tonight.

I fully expect this to end in true Yorkshire style with the final 5 overs yielding 20 runs and Tim Bresnan edging one into his "midriff" off the last ball.

If Willey stays in, it's going to be absolute carnage happy.gif [edit] sorry Adam - and Lyth as well (of course)
