Re: Regarding Yorkshire T20 comments.

In regards to Hodd although he is a great wicket keeper. His batting isn't as good in the modern game where wicket keepers are expected to score a lot runs these days. Blame Gilly!

Fine margins

August 21 2017, 1:01 PM

From todays "Press"

http://www.yorkpress.co.uk/sport/cricket/yorkshire/15484174.Fine_margins_cost_Yorkshire_quarter_final_berth/?ref=mac

This from the article sums it up

".....MM -- "The games we've lost have been very close and could have gone either way."

Each of Yorkshire's five defeats all went down to the last over, including two to the last ball at Derbyshire and Durham...."

Good sides would win five from 5 of those tight matches, even average sides would manage 2 or 3. WE lost all 5!!

Those matches were so tight, it's unfair to say a good side would win all 5. A lucky one might.

You would hope however we could have won two.....

I think the reason Leaning was left out to accommodate Marsh is because Marsh is a test match quality batsman.

Jack isn't, much as I like him. We are all guilty of wanting everything now. Given a bit of time Marsh will show his quality

Sentiment seemingly clouding the judgement of some folk in regard to Hodd. Very good catcher, however he has contributed very little with the bat since joining us. Let's deal with the facts, having an average of 22 is mediocre at best.

The trouble is, we fork out big money for these 'specialists' and, for the main part, they don't do it for us. Miller did it, and Starc, but since then we've see the largely useless Maxwell, Finch - who ironically did well in the CC but not in T20 - and the present bunch of nonentities. And probably a few others I can't remember."

-----------------------

Think you are harsh on Finch who scored 256 runs in the 2014 campaign with two scores of 80, only Bairstow (355) and Alex Lees (315) scored more runs. also Finch being injured for most of 2015 meant he was not match sharp for that campaign.

Dave Willey, Liam Plunkett and Tom Kohler-Cadmore have produced the goods for Yorkshire in T20 and improved the side significantly. I would like Yorkshire to continue with this policy and make a big statement of intent by signing Ben Duckett, who is out of contract at Northants after 2018.

If Yorkshire are to prosper as a domestic side and retain it's identity in the modern game, the club must continue to invest in the T20 format. No-one can't ignore the rising attendances in recent years and combined with the Headingley Stadium development, T20 matches are the format which is more likely to fill the ground.

Whoever is in charge next season needs to try and make sure we get the overseas players that are suited to 2020 cricket or the longer format of the game

Just reading back and we need to put our fielders in wicket taking positions ?? So that would mean we exclude the fact that skilled batsmen are able to place the ball in gaps where there are no fielders . And i assume Northants will sack the captain and OF COURSE the coach because they are clearly usless for letting Lyth get 161 runs.

"...And i assume Northants will sack the captain and OF COURSE the coach because they are clearly usless for letting Lyth get 161 runs."

Two Twenty20 titles, a County Championship promotion, currently in contention for another CC promotion but most importantly a track record of developing players for 1st XI cricket with a skeleton squad and limited resources. If anything Yorkshire should have approached Northants for Dave Ripley when Gillespie left.

Imagine what Ripley can achieve by working with the current Yorkshire squad and a steady supply of Academy players.

To get promoted twice you have to be relagated once as well.
