Re: Championship | Yorkshire vs Middlesex at Headingley (Pre-match Thread)

I think it's clear that one of Lees, Kohler-Cadmore and Leaning will miss out, unless Lyth is absent.

They also have to leave out two of Sidebottom, Plunkett, Brooks and Patterson.
There are fitness issues with the first two, form problems with the others.

Looking at the weather forecast, updated this morning, there may be little or no play Tuesday.

What is it with these player and their wife's, cant they arrange themselves to give birth in the 6 months of the close season!

On paper our batting looks stronger then at Scarborough in the last game and we wont have to face Amir. Not sure if Finn and Roland-Jones will play who are not too shabby either I suppose.
Be interesting to see if Lees looks any better when not opening, he cant complain that the club have tried not to do everything they can for him this year.

Weather doesn't look too good tomorrow but should be ok for rest of the week. Will be there on Wednesday, seems an age since I was last at Headingley for a Championship game.

As for the Moxon / JG debate I think you both have to give them credit for the Championship Titles wins as well as the players, was a team effort.

It feels like we are clutching at straws here, trying to pin the blame on whoever for whatever reasons. Our redball averages don't put many palyers in a favourable light

Lyth 24
Lees 22
TKC 15
Brook 13
Hanscome 34
Hodd 22
Leaning 30
Bresnan 15
Root 11
Bairstow 4
Ballance 102

The numbers tell you all you need to know. A one man batting team. Lyth's T20 form has given his standing a strong boost, but for all his great innings in that competition we didn't end up winning the games we needed, not the smartest cricket perhaps? TKC took far too long to get going in the short format, no other way to say it, his failure was part of our downfall in the shortest fomat. Perhaps a little unfair quoting the figures for Root and Bairstow, but in the two games our 'Names' played, they contributed zilch. We can only assume the new coach is passing on advice so players are able to match his batting prowess.

Then we have Brooks turned from hero to zero, did he really age that much overnight? A sad looking Lees wandering around with his head down but scoring for fun everywhere else. Rhodes off to Warwickshire, leaving behind only his unfullfilled potential whilst we hold onto lesser players. Some questionable decisions around the overseas signings and poor old Ryan seeing his final season being memorable for all the wrong reasons. We still have some of the most talented players in the game, the core of this team has won two championships and multiple individual awards. Age has caught up with some (but enough to see us fail?) but clearly there are undedrlying problems with leadership at the club. Chopping and changing the team won't resolve that, particularly exchanging out of form players for less capable players. Lets hope that quality comes to the fore in the next few weeks.

I did not see many people questioning the overseas players when the signing were announced . Now they have admittedly failed to perform as we hoped its blame the coach time again . Remind me again how much of a success our signings wee in 2016 ? They must have been brilliant because JG was in charge then .

If only it was just about the overseas players Gary! No suggestion that we had it right last year either on that front. We did get to finals day last year though, not an overseas in sight, should have stuck with that Cardiff team for Edgbaston but never could.

An overseas who can score 1000+ runs takes pressure off those youngsters, over the past few years our signing have failed to really deliver irrespective of who is or was was captain or coach.

Weather

Looks like tomorrow may be a washout with showers the rest of the match. Already a win seems unlikely.
If only they'd played it during the mid-summer break when we had some excellent days.

Not a total washout according to the forecast, probably get started sometime in the day, but I'm putting off traveling over until Wednesday.

Similar problems at the other Div 1 matches at Old Trafford and Edgbaston, better news for Southampton.
