ECB conspiracy theory number 26...

So having stuffed Durham up royally with relegations and points deductions and removal of tests they now rest their top draw player for their t20 v the West Indies. It's a sell out on the back of a Stokes appearance especially with Samuels in the opposition but Baylis and Strauss decide Big Ben needs a rest. Why not rest him in the odi at lords or the Oval?

Not too sure about the conspiracy part but this does seem a ridiculous decision (not to rest him generally but to chose to do it there). Only likely to annoy/turn off/alienate people

He had two days rest in the first test and likely to get another today and then Monday too.

He really needs to pick up another demerit point and he'll get another rest missing 2 ODI's before the Ashes start!

I've got nothing against players who play all 3 formats having a rest, particularly if they are fast bowlers, but a few common sense principles need to be applied. Things such as not resting on mass for any game giving the paying spectators at that game a second tier experience and not resting players on their home grounds where a lot of people will be coming specifically to see them. Surely neither of those are too difficult?

And now Cook cleared to play last two games for Essex....

Good decision - he needs form ahead of the Ashes, isn't playing in the one-day series and the championship is virtually won anyway.

Apart from the issue over who he is playing against and whether they have player availability!

Exactly TU. We have 4 regulars missing, Essex will have none. It could well be a match that we HAVE to win to avoid relegation, and we are playing the full strength Champions, on their patch.

Good news for us, we know from many on here that when England regulars turn out for their county they don't really care about the match as they are England players. So its a good thing surely?

........but only when they play for us. Cook has done very well for Essex this season.

Stoneman is the exception. No doubt all our bowlers were pressured indirectly to play badly anyway.
