Lovely morning here in London, sunny, bright, clear. Bit chilly but that should change.
Leaving soon for the Oval: only my second day of CC cricket this year and hope it goes better than the day at Lord's did!

Good luck - I'll be there on Thursday as long as the game lasts that long.
I really don't want to watch Sangakara bat all day again...

Currently on the train should be at The Oval by 10:15.

Rather annoyingly, as with the Middlesex game, this game has coincided with one of those annoying busy weeks, so I won't be able to make it.

There was a biblical downpour yesterday evening - I wonder how much of that will have found its way into the pitch.

Good luck

Hope those attending with a Yorkshire bent get to see something special.

A match winning performance would be much appreciated, perhaps by a young off spinner making his first class debut!

Then again, forget the romance, a nice workmanlike team effort producing a win would be just as good.

Am in lower tier of Pavilion. Safety first. Also behind the arm. Strip is right over by the gasometers. Scorecard has Lyth, Brooks and Rafiq playing. No Patto. No sign of KP. Such a shame. Van den Bergh replaces Dernbach. Or may just be an anagram of him.

Update. TKC in for Lyth. Patto for Coad.
Surrey won the toss and will bat.
Could be a long day ahead.

Surrey bat (and will probably still be batting at tea tomorrow), as we have no Coad, Rashid or Plunkett (3 of our best 4 bowlers).

Lyth also misses out - so the batting is weak as well and the tail starts at 8. Not very optimistic!!

Have to say I am not at all confident after just seeing how the two teams match up.
Will be looking for a couple of our key players to have season best performances.

I don't say this very often but good luck to our friends Lancashire this week.

We look like relegation candidates with this team. Why is Coad not playing? Hope Moxon and Gale are not pampering to Brooks.
However, let us hope fora good morning session.

I have a sneaky feeling that we might surprise a few people in this game. Think we're due a big performance from Brooks.

I'm also puzzled by Coad's omission. And also by Lyth's - he hasn't had the greatest of seasons, but he did well against Middlesex. Any explanations?

Lyth's wife is or has been expecting- I'm presuming he's on paternity leave.

Coad must surely be injured..?

Agree that our side looks weak on paper whatever the reasons.

Adam's absence is presumably linked to his wife's imminent childbirth. I'd be interested to know why Ben Coad isn't playing however.

Lyths wife is expecting a new arrival any time, explains his ommission. I assume Coad is injured. Both a big blow to our chances of getting much from this game.

I presume the imminent arrival of his baby accounts for Lyth's omission. It seems to be accepted on the forum (where have I heard that before?) that Brooks "stormed out" of Headingley last week. Was this reported anywhere reputable and, if not, what is the source of the story? I'm not doubting it, I just want to keep abreast of things.

Quite Dewsburian. I wonder what 'storming' looked like. You'd want him to be a bit disappointed, wouldn't you?

Brooks is bowling quite handily but Stoneman is a man looking to secure a tour berth on a short boundary at theOval...
