Leaning flashes un-necessarily and gets out.

Tomorrow's forecast is fair. Not looking good.

Its been an engrossing morning - i expect us to avoid the follow on but miss out on the last batting point perhaps...
Hodd and Leaning both look confident and the new ball has increased the run rate.
The Oval really is a magnificent ground - the equal to Lords in many respects.
Is there an argument for declaring at 400...?
Could Surrey be persuaded to set a chase on the last afternoon?

Leaning just out - thats a shame. He looked well set. Perhaps my eternal optimism is once again misplaced..

Bressie off the mark with a dismissive four.

Now Jack has gone I think it is a rather an academic debate as we are likely to be batting again today so another bonus point is all that we may gain from this match - tongue in cheek of course!

It would be madness to declare at 400 Steve

A declaration at 400, and we would be following on!! 443 declaration a possibility.

We can forget the 5th batting point, only 12 runs in the last 10 overs.

Yes 443 - sorry was thinking the follow on was 200 and not 150 in county games...
What have we got to lose...?
Somerset look likely to beat Lancashire.
If we bat on the game is almost certainly going to be a draw.
If we declare the game will probably still be a draw - but i really dont see any demons in the pitch and at least it gives Batty something think about...

We are a long way from getting the draw yet, not in a position to risk the draw points going for a win anyway

I'm sure we could reach an agreement with Surrey that if we declare after 110 overs, assuming we're still behind the follow on target, the follow on would not be enforced.

Interesting. I'd be surprised if it happens. The game is can we cobble together another 120 or so to reach 443. if this partnership is broken relatively soon, i'd say odds are against.

I don't see Surrey risking defeat in any case. Not alot to be gained for them by making a game of it.

Surrey have bowled much better in the last hour or so. Clarke getting late-ish away swing and mixing in a few cross-seamers. Not as easy out there as it looked earlier.
One gift (two?) and one exceptional catch this morning, but since lunch Surrey have probably deserved a few wickets and got only one.

Rafiq has not had a great game. 122-0, a 3 ball duck and picked up an injury. Boy, do we miss Rashid!!

I think we will be following on sometime today. Dread to think what our chances of stopping up will be if we lose tomorrow.

Strangely, Rafiq played Batty as though he'd never seen an off-spin delivery before.

Interesting finish ahead but at least we have batted our way to some Peter points.

We need to get to tea (2 more overs) with only 8 down. Then there will be a 2 over deduction between innings. We need a much delay as possible, or rain all day tomorrow.

Tea, so 128 overs left, minus 2 for the innings break. Still lots of fighting to do.

On the bright side, Lancs are still pressing on and it's raining again at the Middlesex game.

An additional bonus point is one point, a draw is five points. But I've no quibbles with the approach today. 350 off 110 overs is how two-and-a-half championships were won.

We are 'only' 200 behind and are not all-out yet. We have batted for most of four sessions: there are four left (rain looks unlikely). We can save this.
