To answer your question ---- Plunkett without a doubt, then probably Fisher.

Warwickshire Squad

Trott*, Ambroseā€ , Banks, Bell, Javid, Lamb, Panayi, Patel, Rankin, Sibley, Sidebottom, Thomason, Thomson and Wright

No Woakes or Barker (their best two seam bowlers), and Hain who is one of their best younger batsmen, or Umeed (their young promising opener. So they have certainly rung the changes.

Siddy misses out for us (shame- no guard of honour, and misses out on playing in his last home game, etc).

our 14 man squad

Ballance, Braithwaite, Bresnan, Brooks, Carver, Coad, Fisher, Hodd, KC, Leaning, Lees, Lyth, Patterson, Rafiq.

I would leave out Rafiq, Carver, & Fisher or Patto. It`s a must win match - do we want wicket takers and a bit of pace - Fisher, or steady away, tight economical stuff - Patto.

We just have to win. If we can`t beat Warwickshire, quite frankly, we deserve to go down.

I'm asking who the fastest bowler is...that is available for this game
Hence the question marks next to the young plethora of bowlers

No idea of the second teamers, but Fisher looks to be the quickest of the first teamers I have seen and who are available for this match.

Warner and Wainman are both fairly brisk. More significantly, neither has figured in first team thinking so far. The importance of this game would ensure that it would have been unwise to experiment with either at this juncture.

Not seen him bowl but isn't Jared Warner meant to be pretty quick?

Cheers Stu

Honest question here between fisher, Bresnan and Patto

Which two on CURRENT FORM are the most likely to get wickets at hq??
From looking at stats and figures from this year will fisher realistically be less effective than Bresnan??

Bresnan has 24 wickets from 10 matches this season. Patto has 14 wickets from 7 matches. Fisher has not played yet in the CC.

Anybodys guess who will get the most wickets of the three v Warwicskshire, but Tim is by far the better bat and I would much rather have him at 8 than the other two (assuming 6 batsmen & Hodd at 7).

I'd replace Ryan with Coad and keeps Patto, Bressy & Brooks

Re: Championship | Yorkshire vs Warwickshire at Leeds (Pre-match Thread)

Wainman played a T20 game at New Road last year. He didn't really look ready at that point and lack of pace was part of that, but he's taken a lot of 2nd XI wickets since. My guess would be that Warner is slightly faster, but it's a close run thing. If there's to be a "smooth transition" rather than a re-building job, my feeling is that one of the younger bowlers/all-rounders (or perhaps David Willey) will have to step up and put serious pressure on the places of Patto and/or Tim Bresnan. Waite seems a tough and combative cricketer and Fisher is obviously talented, but it would be nice if one or more of the second eleven bowlers could "do a Coad" next year - preferably one I haven't even mentioned (Thompson, Barnes, Carver, Logan?). The second XI has, after all, just bowled Surrey out for 58 (under the captaincy of Jonny Tattersall, which slightly surprises me, as I thought he was on a match-by-match contract this year).

I would play Fisher, drop Bresnan and pick six specialist batsmen.

Current forecast suggests we can forget about Thursday and have to try and win in three days. Four dry days are forecast in the south, of course.

Currently tipping it down in Leeds as well, so if the Middlesex match is anything to go by a delayed start tomorrow looks highly possible.

I have absolutely no idea of who to pick for this one.

We need a win so need wicket taking bowlers at headingley. Coad, Brooks, siddy if fit but I can't entertain the idea of leaving out Bresnan. Lyth and Bratthwaite in the top four but both opening?

Leaning or TKC?

Do we need Rafiq?

Lyth
BrathwAite
Lees
TKC
Balance
Leaning
Hodd
Bresnan
Brooks
Coad
Siddy

But could easily see Leaning left out for Rafiq Carver Patto or Fisher.

Who knows

Kohler-Cadmore is a top order batsman, Leaning is a middle order batsman. Why unstable the middle order when Leaning made 85 and 70 in his last 4 County Championship innings?

I don't we can go into a must win match with only 4 bowlers & sorry but we need a spinner. Dare we risk Rafiq after last week? Is it wise to throw an untried bowler into such a high profile game? So it had to be Bresnan, Brooks, Coad & PAtto plus .... Caver?

And guess who booked Thurday off as his last day of cricket in 2017?

Days rain

September 18 2017, 9:04 PM

Don't give up hope yet, plenty of time for Thursday forecast rain to become de-forecasted.

Very wet and unpleasant when I left Leeds today just after 6 pm. Think it's going to be a damp old start tomorrow and I can't see Warwickshire doing anything but putting us in.

I can understand why people want to pack the batting and therefore leave us without a spinner. I think it would be the wrong move and I can't see why they would pick 2 spinners in the 14 man squad if they don't intend to play at least one of them.

We will soon find out.

Pleased we won't be facing Woakes and Barker, as well as the bowling they are both handy batsmen.

Yorkshire v Warwickshire pre match thread

September 18 2017, 11:23 PM

Tattersall's status has changed twice, Dewsburian. At the beginning of the season, he was given a trial to the end of June. Before that date was reached, this was extended to the end of the season. Subsequently he has been offered another year. He has plenty of previous captaincy experience and was, of course, vice captain to Rhodes for England under 19's.

Pyratechnics.

Good challenge but as it is now our batsmen are just batsmen and not pigeon holed in any particular spot.

Lees is an opener but now bats at 3.

Leaning can bat anywhere between 3 and 6 depending on others.

Balance bats 3 for England but 4/5 for us.

TKC opened last week but batted 4 v Essex at Scarborough.

I agree it's hard to leave out Jack but it's hard to drop TKC too as he too has scored well last week. So leave out Lees on back of a long overdue ton or Lyth who has t20 runs to give confidence and a determined knock at Scarborough when others collapsed in a heap?

I'm sure Brathwaite will play as we wouldn't have signed him!

Options aplenty so I'm relying on Gale and Moxon to decide on the bowling attack first and whether we need a few time spinner in September in a rain hit game or if four seamers is the answer and room for another batsman.
