One of those cloudy days which usually suits the seamers. BUt I fear Patel more personally. A gutsy player who won't give up even though they are relegated

Looks like the weather could frustrate us over the next couple of days. The good news is that we should come away with more bonus points than Somerset and Middlesex. Them from the wrong side of the pennines aren't doing us many favours so far.

Imagine if the standings after going into the final match allowed Somerset and Middlesex to conspire to a draw to send us down. They wouldn't would they? Fortunately I can't see that being a possibility.

Poor dismissal for Alex Lees.

Ironic that this would probably have been a better week to play Essex!
As for Warwickshire, Patel and Wright are good players who have performed poorly all season. When I've been to Edgbaston, I've sometimes had the impression that the bowlers - with the exception of Barker - were making a sullen protest against the feebleness of their batsmen. As illustration, now that he's at Surrey, Rikki Clarke seems liberated.

I'd intended to be at Headingley today, but couldn't make it in the end. The radio commentary's not too bad so far, though it's irritating to have to listen to Phil Britt massacring the pronunciation of Liversedge.

Tom that's impossible as neither side would know how we are getting on against essex which of course is being played simultaneously

It is in fact an advantage to us that they play each other

For example
...the most likely scenario might be yorks and middx to win this week....then Somerset would have to beat middx next week....woth us around 4 points ahead of middx then it is extremely unlikely that they could overtake us even if we atr hammered at chelmsford

Peter: "Tom that's impossible as neither side would know how we are getting on against essex which of course is being played simultaneously "

I'm delighted to see that there are others who deny the existence of modern communication technology and social media as much as I.

And then there are always pigeons.....

Not picking the extra batsman looks like costing us here

Looks increasingly likely that yesterday afternoon's very poor and disappointing session could prove critical to our survival as we should be ahead by now rather than playing catch up with only 6 wickets remaining. If we throw away this game after starting so well, we will deserve to be relegated.

So please explain how it would happen?

If somst were 5 points ahead of us and middc 4....both sides collude a13 point draw.....middx would look very silly if we then beat essex I'm the final session

Besides how would you do it?

Joke bowling till the batting side gets 400 then they throw away their wickets?

Come on of course that would not happen..

There is mo way collusion can ensure both middx and somst could giatantee they both finish above yorks without a crystal ball

Remember one of the four batsmen to fall is Patto. We are in a good position.

Since we're pretty much all on level points. If we were to lose and they were both to win this week, and assuming the same bonus points they would be 15 points ahead of us and a draw with maximum (or close to maximum) bonus points would leave us needing 29. Since 24 is the maximum for any match that even gives them a bit of a margin for us picking up more bonus points here or them less next week.

It looks very unlikely with the way the matches are going now, but possible.

Good to see Lancs doing us a favour. We have to ensure that we win our remaining games it's still in our hands and not having to be reliant on the results of others.

Not sure that Lancs are doing us much of a favour by collapsing quickly, giving Middx maximum bowling points and a decent lead from which to try to force the win?

At the ground.

Cracking game, real pity about the forcast rain for tomorrow. Big partnership this one. Really need GB to keep going.

We've don't want to be chasing to many against jetan in the last innings, he's already finding turn plus a bit of bounce. Still like our position would be more confident if rashid was playing.

I fancy we'll get a lead of around 50 then run through Warwickshire pretty quickly second time around.

Credit to Jack Leaning who has been slowly regaining form while the others have all failed. He hasn't exactly set the championship alight but he is one of the only batsmen who will end the season with an acceptable average.

We have a batting point. And Middx are off for bad light. It is very gloomy here in London. Tee hee.
