Re: Championship | Yorkshire vs Warwickshire at Headingley (Day Three)

September 21 2017, 11:19 AM

Not a good morning so far: three wickets at Lord's (including Livingstone and Chanderpaul) leaving the target looking fairly distant, and none at Headingley, rendering our first innings lead of no further use.

I'm getting increasingly worried...

Patel proving to be the difference here with bat and ball.

Whether overseas or kolpak he has been a signing who was brought in to do a specific role for a long term and has delivered.

In this game his century will grab the headlines more than his wickets but his 35 over spell yesterday was miserly and allowed the seamers to rotate.

If we could have relied on Rafiq to do that we would have picked him

I've just realised Barker not in their team. A relief as he's talented with bat or ball and dangerous lower order hitter

They are 10-2 in their second knock. Don't Panic.

Brooks comes on and, after bowling a load of $£%& yesterday, immediately gets a wicket. Lancs sinking without trace, Hameed and the Kolpaks now, Chanderpaul gone.

Sangakkara carries our hopes at The Oval - 148 not out.

Trott and Bell in. We need them out. NOW.

No doubt now will be the moment Bell chooses to awaken from his season-long stupor...

Hameed has batted an hour this morning for a single. Keep going. Get the target into double figures.

Hoping for a Warwickshire collapse. This season it's never been far away.

Right now we are still in control and look the favourites. However if these two are still in at lunch then it becomes a lot trickier. Lancashire are doing us no favours and have somehow found themselves inexplicably at no2 in the table and from last weeks Somerset game they seemed to of reverted back to the team that faced us early on in the season.

O'dear, the Gods are conspiring against us, not looking great at present but keep the faith we just need some magic from our attack.

Hameed hit on the hand. Pitch playing up, possibly.

Patto gets Bell. Important wicket, that! 32-3.

There's only one acronym for now....

NLOP

Bells season of underachieving continues thank goodness. It's Trott who always worries me as his approach since returning from England is far more determined

Bell not at all happy and it didn't look like bat to me. Great ball though.

Hameed: I was listening on sports extra when he went off. Hit on the hand. Lengthy treatment etc. Radio now gone to England - can team England interfere any more with my cricket season!!!

I'm still uncomfortable with the scores at Leeds. Head says not panic, but I've got a bad feeling.

I'm back there tomorrow, looks like they'll be plenty of play.

Surrey currently doing us more favours than we're doing ourselves. Interesting times.

Cannot see Lancs getting these. I have a bad feeling about our match too: would be a dreadful loss from 50/6...

Not a great morning for us, with rain likely during rest of today. We still do not seems to get bowling combinations right with our having included 5 seamers, giving them all turns instead of going for the jugular when we have created an opening at one end. If only we had finished them off on the first afternoon, we could be home and dry by now 🙁 Hopefully we will get Patel early.

We needed TKC for the Patel factor and the loss of time. My sense is that our coach and (possibly) captain is not up to making the tough decisions. Both TKC and. Lees batted well against Surrey, but hiring Brathwaite meant that resting Lees rather than TKC could have been the right call to make (if we are playing five seamers). I guess not playing Brathwaite was unthinkable. Would it be too harsh to say that a degree of muddled thinking has befuddled us this season ?

Lees batted better than he has for a long time against Surrey . Made a 100 and you want to rest him ? What message is that going to send him ?
