Well done Patto. It should never have been this hard, but....phew!

Now to watch the game at the Oval!

Oddly enough, the last couple of times I've seen Alex Lees, he looked brilliant. I wonder if we wouldn't have a healthier forum if we were allowed to make as many personal insults as we liked (some people already do seem to be allowed to do this), but contributors were prohibited from calling for players or staff to be sacked, shot or otherwise got rid of.

I've just copied the following from the BBC site. I don't know who covers the county cricket, but they seem a little confused about the laws of the game:
"With the scores tied and Yorkshire one run from victory, a wicket falls! Matthew Fisher is out and in comes Jack Brooks. Two further wickets, without a run scored, would see Yorkshire lose."

Wow, thank goodness and well played Patto and young Fisher. Maybe the Coach will learn from this, but don't hold your breath!
Certainly Less and Brooks should not play next week with K-C and spinner coming in to starting XI. We are still not totally safe.

Have to say, the thread for this game reminds me why we are supporters but not captains and coaches! Thank God we have Ballance captaining the side - someone who keeps cool in a crisis, something we all struggle to do at the best of times!

And unless we want to lose Lees for good, I suspect that dropping him for the final game is not a good idea. He may not have looked great in this game, but he did look like he was returning to form at the Oval.

According to Cally (disclaimer) we are #3 in the table. What a close fight the reduction in matches has made for.

People ought to stop going on about Warwickshire being "allowed to recover" from 49 for 6, Yorkshire have just recovered from 96 for 7. Middlesex were 89 for 7 against Lancs and won. Essex were 76 all out and have Hampshire 4 down for not many. It happens all the time!!

Well done Patto. Fantastic performance from him. It makes Monday's equation a little simpler.

Very happy with the win. Plenty of work to do of course, but you can't fault the character of our senior guys (Fisher and Coad too)

What a funny game cricket is. Many said Patterson should not be playing at start and he goes and gives a match winning performance with the bat.

Would say Patterson's knock in circumstances was best batting performance at Headingley this year apart from Shai Hope in the test.

Well done Yorkshire. And what a wonderful endorsement for the most compelling team competition in cricket...and perhaps in sports!

Alot of the extras was Patel spinning it too far down leg side leaking either leg byes or byes. Surprised he continued to operate around the wicket to the right handers for so long.

Alibor, we are all but safe. 2 points ahead of middlesex who have to lose against somerset to put us in any danger whatsoever.

They would need to score 3 bonus points more than us, assuming we lose to essex.
Middlesex are extremely unlikley to score any batting points....or certainly no more than 1, which would leave us needing just 2 points against essex.

somst should they lose this afternoon, would be 16 points behind middx but with more wins so winning and matching bonus points would be enough for them.

But this is where it gets interesting.....should middx put somerset in and bowl them out for less than 300, middx would simply need to declare their first innings at the fall of the second wicket to ensure survival....but that would surely be punished by the ecb, even though they got away with it against us....

talk about double standards.

Given that Yorkshire can now finish in any position between 2nd and 7th in Division 1, would those people who want to see a "clear out" of players still want that if the club finishes 2nd? Logically, I suppose they ought to.

Interesting question, Dewsburian. It's a shame for some that Gale can only be sacked once. Maybe we could re-hire him as a steward, then sack him again?

Them cracks were particular visible at Somerset twice, Middlesex away, Hampshire twice, Essex at Scarborough and today's result.

Winning and losing is a fine margin but the above fixtures yielded 4 defeats and could so easily of been more had we not had Patterson today, ballance against Hampshire and lyth against Somerset . It should of been 7 defeats for the year so let's not get carried away. There are issues that need improving in all 3 facets. Let's hope there's a productive winter on the horizon with a couple of exiting signings both on the field and in the changing rooms.
