Re: Championship | Yorkshire vs Warwickshire at Headingley (Day Four)

Barring some very good individual performances as a team they have been poor since Balance got the England recall, you could argue he was papering over the cracks at that time with the volume of runs he was scoring.
Sign 11 Kolpaks, what are Hampshire fans saying as they now stare relegation in the face (for the 2nd year?)
Bar Essex and Warwickshire everyone else has been as good and as bad as each other in equal measure.

I've said throughout my posts we need a wicket keeper that scores runs. I've said hodd doesn't score enough and Johnny plays for England. That seems clear to me.

You brought up the glory years and I said we need to move on.

We need to improve to keep out of trouble next year that's the point I was making.

Name the keeper who is available to sign and will keep wicket well and score loads of runs and will step aside if the ECB deem that JB requires a game

BTW didn't Davies have a shocking start to the season at Somerset? Hodd has contributed on a few occasions this year when we've needed runs

There's a lot of guff being spouted on here this afternoon......it's been a magnificent read! happy.gif

I'd love to know who these magical Kolpak's who will score 1000 runs and guarantee success are and this keeper who'll do the same!

Can we have some names?

Davies did indeed have a poor start to the season. Yet he's scored more runs than all our batsmen bar Ballance. Bit of a myth that he would have had to step aside completely. He would have given up the gloves a couple of times but still played as a batsman.

I'm only highlighting a problem area. I've just said compared to other counties we lack a run scoring keeper. Davies did start bad but he's got a couple of 100's lately.

I've also said we don't score enough runs at the top of the order. Am I incorrect??

Im just looking at where we need to improve. Do you all disagree with what I've addressed as deficiencies??

Good luck with that Chris.

"Do you all disagree with what I've addressed as deficiencies?"

You haven't addressed anything, you've just told us we need to get rid of the coaches, get rid of the keeper, sign better overseas players, sign a 1000 runs a season batsman and sign a specialist red ball quick bowler and spinner.

Addressing ALL these areas you think are deficient at Yorkshire would be to tell us who is, available and affordable. Now's your chance.........

I mentioned academy for red ball bowlers. Think I said give shutt a chance and keep fisher and coad so that's the answer to that 1

I said I'd have marsh back or somebody like Mitchell from Worcestershire who had been linked

That's two answers

I'd back marsh to get close to 1000 runs

Keeper I mentioned Davies being available last summer. Chance missed but I'm not sure who else is a available

Coaches I said McGrath and silverwood

That suffice??

Surely you should always look to improve and not go backwards and decline?

If I've done the maths right, I believe a win at Essex, coupled with low scoring draws in the other games, could yet clinch the runners-up spot. So an improvement on last season.

Or maybe not..........

I'm evolving all the time, Steve, though not as fast as someone who's shifted within a couple of hours from recommending that most of the team be executed by "firing squad"/"rot in hell" to suggesting that the club should remedy some "deficiencies".

I'm not in favour of a football transfer type of scenarios, but wonder if we could pinch Billings from Kent. Yes he may play the odd one at international, but not Test

I got carried away earlier i apologise for that. My emotions got the better of me. At 90-7 I wasn't the only one. I just don't want us to be in this mess again next year that's all

I like the billings suggestion he's in danger of treading water down in the garden of England

Jennings was available. Davies last year. No idea about the availability of other players but Sam Northeast is a massively underrated cricketer.

The lad at Lancs would have been a good choice as keeper batsman - Villas.

He is a Kolpak and in my opinion, I would have no issue with us signing 1.

Of course, he is not available but he was last year and I would reckon others arw out there.

I said a year ago we need a stronger keeper batsman. That is nothing against Hodd - In fact he has been decent with the bat. But he is a back up option.

Its OK people saying " We dn't need him as we have Bres and Rash". Well Bres can't be awesome every season and Rash is with England half the time.

I do not know why people continue to "accept" this situation. The balance of the team is not right.

have i been transported to a parrallel universe?

we did win today didn't we?

We are third in the table, one game away from being runners up?

Only Essex have won more games than us?

and thats without bairstow at all this season.

So whats all this papering over the cracks?

We are a competitive team in a competitive league.

Before this last round of matches only the top 2 were safe from relegation and all bar the bottom side could become runners up. Thats the nature of an 8 team league with 2 going down.

All that has happened this year is that we have discovered like all other teams that we are mortal after all.

So now we want a wholesale change?

ok, forget who to sign, which of this team should now have played their last match for yorkshire?

A word about Hodd.

On the third day of this game Patto bowled with great control for 26 overs, taking 4 wickets for 46 runs. This was a major contribution to Yorkshire's fortuitous victory (not his only contribution, of course). No small part of his success with the ball was aided by Hodd "standing-up to the stumps". I am advised by those with a much better understanding of wicket-keeping technique, that Hodd's performance was faultless.

Today, he fell cheaply, but in fact he did nothing wrong in playing at the ball, which had to be played. A lesser batsman would probably have been nowhere near it. (Now where have I heard that before?)

Rather like Patto, and indeed, Adil, it often seems that Hodd receives less than the credit due to him.

A gentleman mentioned Jennings and Is marsh not a realistic target?? I mentioned shutt who already plays for us and Davies was available

Nobody is ranting just naming top order batsmen that are available and keepers that we could of got such as Davies n vilas

I think a few people can just see when your keeper scores under 500 with no 100's that that's perhaps an area to improve??

Lyth and lees averagd under 30 so statistics back up the highlighted "deficiencies"
