"Strangely enough, the way things are going in the Division two matches, Notts could end up not going up. Bizzare if it happens, as they have been runaway leaders all season, most of the time miles ahead on points as well."

ah well that is what happens when you concentrate on winning one day tournaments.

I like a trip to Trent Bridge but have to admit to favouring the non test match counties from div 2.

northants need to score 1 more batting point than notts to go up instead of them (assuming northants win and notts draw)

Surreys bold/cynical declaration backfiring on them today and Somerset batting well in their second dig on what some would have believe is an absolute minefield.

Duck today for Bell too. I wonder if he will be back next year?

Not looking to good for Notts now. 4 wickets down.

Unbelievable if they don`t go up, with the massive lead they have had all season. Coughlin wanted a move to a First Division club. Quite ironic if Notts go to CLS next season.

From twitter re Somerset v Middlesex

The match Cricket Liaison Officer has now said he won't be speaking to the media until the end of the game. #bbccricket

Does that mean a points deduction or not????

If Somerset lose points allowing Middlesex to stay up then the whole game is corrupt.

All three div 1 games that started yesterday are broadly similar in state of play.

Lancs should have declared when eight down. Perhaps with not being a London team that would have been seen as an extraordinary declaration.

Somerset now 159-3. If they get deducted points we might as well all pack up and not bother next season. No way it can happen.

That 3rd bowling point no benefit to Surrey, so no point Lancs declaring at 8 down.

This time last week it looked like us,middx or somst for the drop

Now looks odds on Hampshire to go

Somehow they have to avoid defeat to stay up

Yes, could be Hampshire. Must admit, they would be my choice if I could pick one of Somerset, Middlesex or Hampshire to go down.

Got out of jail last year and to many kolpacks for my liking.

It would seem like a bit of justice after last year's escape. Also Rod Bransgrove comes across as an awful man with crickets best interests a long way from his heart if he has one.

It would be fantastic if Hampshire were relegated, poetic justice (albeit a year too late). Come on Warks!

Great effort from Somerset with the bat second time around, surely they can't consider points deductions now?!

Unbelievable if Hants go down after making Essex follow-on last week and having Warwicks 29 for 5 this morning.

Food for thought re: Surrey declaration - why did Batty declare mid-over? Could have scored more runs from remaining 3 balls.

I wouldn't bank on Warwickshire to win. They haven't really been in the winning habit for some time, though they did of course beat Middlesex with Woakes in the side. I suspect a lot depends on whether Abbott stays fit enough to bowl.

"Unbelievable if Hants go down after making Essex follow-on last week and having Warwicks 29 for 5 this morning."

....and we complained about letting warks off the hook from 49-6

"Food for thought re: Surrey declaration - why did Batty declare mid-over? Could have scored more runs from remaining 3 balls."

nothing to gain and plenty to lose....conceding a third batting point could have cost them r/up.

Turning wickets

September 26 2017, 11:18 PM

If you look at the wickets England played on last winter in Bangladesh and India the English batsmen lacked the technique to bat on these wickets. So ask yourself this - why should we produce" English seaming tracks" only in this country and what is the problem with the tracks Somerset are producing at Taunton? Yes they are leaving the grass on the middle of their pitch but shaving the ends to encourage spin bowling but is this a crime and do they deserve a pitch penalty. So far there has been 65 MORE runs scored for 1 more wicket taken than our match with Essex although we have lost 22 overs to the weather.

if somst want to play 2 or 3 day cricket at taunton, then let them. It is their members who would complain about lack of cricket to watch and the cost in lost income from hospitality and refreshments.

Remember the disaster it was perceived to be when Scarborough lost a couple of days of cricket cos of a match finishing too early?
