Re: Overseas Player 2018: Kane is able!

That is really excellent news about Kane Williamson. However we must sign another good overseas player for the important CC games early season if we are to do well/survive in Division 1 - ideally a batting all rounder like Kane with a proven track record. Kane will be a great help to Ballance who, hopefully, will be allowed to captain the countyteam without much off field influence.

Unlikely to be Kohli unless he wants to skip the IPL next year.

Looks like the Yorkshire think tank have recognised having a decent overseas player available for a whole season is a big ask these days.

Quite satisfied with the signing of Kane Williamson, a good stand in captain should Gary Ballance be involved in test duty. His T20 record might be far from proven, but he will provide good foil for Lyth, TKC, Willey and Leaning.

Seems strange for Kane to be involved for just 4 CC games and his stint ends in early September. Unless if there is a New Zealand training camp, a tour to pencilled in or just wants a breather, New Zealand don't have international commitments until around November time.

Yes. Good bit of business done here. Known to us, one of top 3 batsmen globally and a leader.

I’ve always felt that in the difficult balancing act between class and availability, I’d go for availability, but if you’re not going to do that, at least we’ve gone for absolute class. It means that 2 of the world’s top 3 or 4 are now on Yorkshire’s books. How much they play is a different matter.

Kane likes us, knows everyone and may feel he owes us after the last visit ended suddenly. It does leave the second signing pretty vital. My preference would be for someone who can do both jobs, t20 and the CC fill in. I think we should avoid too much of a ‘revolving door’ syndrome.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it was Handscomb again. I wouldn’t be that chuffed but on the other hand my first reaction to him last year was that he looked real class. If he has realised that you have to get forward at times in this country he might be ok, and although I was pretty appalled by the idea of him keeping in t20 it did seem to work out ok and frees a place for another bat or bowler.

I can’t stand the sledging but I don’t think it’s an issue here.

Am very happy that Kane is returning but we still need someone for the start of the season.

Also happy that Kane is back, but he is only here for just over 7 weeks. We need someone for the other 17 weeks of the season and another T20 specialist.

the board seems quite happy that Kane Williamson is back for four-county games at the end of the season, it is a good signing but I hope the signing for the first part of the season is a good one and not just a stop gap as for 20-20 who nose.

Call me cynical, but I certainly hope we can sign a quality bat for the other Championship matches. Otherwise, based on last season's travails, losing Sids to retirement and not seeing much if anything of Root and Bairstow, Williamson's' main job will be to help Yorkshire to avoid demotion in the CC.

Given that the article states Bancroft is a Gloucs player when he's signed for Somerset I wouldn't read much into it. Plus it's the Daily Mail, so facts won't have been the priority.

Meanwhile, Daily Express to say snow forecast all this summer, but at least there's hope in the fight against arthritis.
