T20 franchise developments

It now seems that ten counties are now opposed to the T20 franchise competition, after original plans for the smaller counties to get a financial share have seemingly been abandoned.
I always felt this new competition was more a way of elite players and media making more money, as opposed to promoting the game. I could be wrong, but the counties could have been sold a pup here.

No sure of where the source is, but IF true what a fiasco. Where is the source of the article??

When it was originally proposed, several counties were against the plans. Then the ECB offered them a "bribe" to accept it and then everyone, apart from 2 or 3 counties who still had some integrity, were all for it. Now the "bribe" has been withdrawn, 10 counties are now against it again, presumably the 10 counties who will not get a franchise.

Typical ECB cock-up!! They could not run a **** up in a brewery. To think they are in charge of our great game!!

t20 franchise

the only winner in this competition is the top players in cricket, the big hitters the batsman who hit big runs, the bowlers who can take wickets regularly, and the ECB who run the who gets what, Yorkshire will only make money on drinks and food, root and Bairstow will want to play for a team based at Headingley , can you see the two playing for a Lancashire team .

Peter --- there is only a very slim chance that Root & Bairstow will be playing for a Headingley based team.

Firstly, we have to get a franchise - which is not guaranteed.

Secondly the ECB have previously stated that it is very unlikely that any of the England players will be given clearance to play in the competition, and then we have to overcome the biggest obstacle of the three, in that Root & Bairstow may be selected by another franchise in the bidding process, before we even have the chance to bid for them.

In the IPL, do the Indian players have a choice which franchise they will play for?
Or are they obliged (assuming they are available for the competition at all) to play for the team that bids the highest?

I feel the time to introduce a IPL / Big Bash style T20 League has now passed.
If was started 5 years ago it would have worked a lot better but the ship has sailed on this.
Think it will be a success first year with all the promotion and advertising but after that public interest will sharply go down.
Think be much better to base T20 League around counties. Even people who are not really regular cricket fans still have some infinity to Yorkshire, Lancashire or whoever.

I'm certainly with you on this. Think the T20 blast is all we need.

It may have relied on your Chris Gayles etc to get it started but with some decent marketing and a better TV deal even the smaller counties could make serious money out of it using mostly home grown talent.
