Billy .. that is a great idea on what is being done in Florida. Here in Spokane, WA, the city is forming Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) to provide immediate assistance in times of need. I think they have in mind things like severe weather, including snow storms, ice storms, fire storms (not exactly weather ...), that have shut down utilities for up to ten days, in the past. ARES/RACES is an integral part of the CERT neighborhood team.

Via email, I also received a FANTASTIC suggestion for improving our recruiting effort. Eric Falkof, K1NUN, has suggested we should have a recruitment contest. Pointing out that in ham radio we have contests for nearly everything else imaginable, why don't we have a contest for recruitment? This could be individuals, groups and clubs who participate in different categories. This is a brilliant concept and one I hope to give more thought to (although my time gets to be very limited next week...)
