Size doesn't always matter. the 44 and it's transitions are geared toward stopping the run first. When in the 44 you will almost always have a blitz call. although you line up only 4 DL's you are actually using 5 with the blitzer. the offense doesn't always know where it is coming from.

Your biggest weakness is the middle of the line. It is important to have two DT's that can keep the middle boxed and not allow the guards to get off the line. most offensive linemen are tought "Man, Down, Backer". if the dt's can keep the last option checked then you can have great success against the run.

This is a "Mind your buisness Defense". Meaning it is not based on what the offense does rather based on individual primary and secondary responsibilities. When the entire defense plays their areas of responsibility it is a beautiful thing. Last seaon at the Bantam level we shutout 3 teams and held 2 others to 6 points. 5 of 8 games with dominating defense.

Takes a little pressure off the O.
