The 10-1, Does it work?

I played high school football for GA Moore. The 10-1 works. The thing that many on here are missing, is the one thing about the 10 that not many people get. It's an attitude. It's all about believing in the 10.

For those who say that it doesn't produce players that understand position playing, you are merely kidding yourself. The HS team I played on had 9 out of the starting 11 go on and play college football from NAIA up to Div. I. This is from a school of only 220-230 students.

The 10-1 Defense has produced 8 State Championships for GA in his career. He is only one away from the all-time record of 9. He has won a Texas State record of over 400 games and less than 90 losses. Still has the all time winning percentage even when compared to coaches with many less games coached. If he is asked, he will tell you that the key to his success IS THE 10-1. It won him a state recored 68 games in a row. Second longest streak is 49. Over the course of the 68 games, the average points given up per game was less than 6. This streak included 20 playoff games and 4 state championship games. That's a pretty good average when playing the best the state has to offer.

The 10 teaches kids, all the way up through the hs level, how to play football. It may not teach you how to "step and stack", or "bobtail", or any of that other corny coaching lingo crap, but it DOES teach a kid how to play defense. You sell them on it and you'll have 11 kids trying their damndest to HIT and TACKLE. They will take pride in it.

There aren't many hs in Texas that even run it. The reason is simple. It's too easy to beat on the chalk board and too many coaches have a hard time buying into it. Try it. If your kids don't love it and want more of it, then you aren't coaching it right.

I bought a tape that GA made some years back about the 10. I loved it and have been saying the same things that you just said about the 10 for years. It's a great D you've got to believe in it and make the kids believe. It's nice to see someone stand up for the 10 that has played in this system at the high school level.
well said!!
thanks

I'm sure he is still coaching in TX, he changed HS a year or so back. The tape
that I have came from a guy named Bob Rexrode. He makes coaching tapes and sells them, I think you can look him up on the net.
Hope this helps, if not I can try to make you a copy

It seems that Coach GA Moore has retired from coaching. However, his replacement (his assistant coach when the famous defense was started) is Butch Ford over at Celina, TX. As of April 2006, Coach Butch Ford has led his team to a 50-4 record during his four years as Head Coach at Celina, Texas. It seems that the defense is still working even at the high school level.

Another good story from the Dallas Morning News back from November 23, 2004 (http://www.ppgthemovie.com/press.htm) which goes into a little more detail of Coach GA Moore's record and Coach Butch Ford. You can also read more about it over at http://www.ppgthemovie.com/release.htm

There is even a video out about the winning streak Celina has had called "Power Passion & Glory" which you can get at www.ppgthemovie.com

Hope all of this information helps.

Rob
