There are a few things that you need to do in order to build arm strength.
First, work on the muscles in your upper back and rear shoulder alonw with your external rotators of your shoulder. These are the muscles that but the brakes on your arm in order to protect it. I mention these first because it won't do you any good to strengthen your arm and blow it out in the first game. Remember safety first!
Secondly, work on your chest, front shoulder, core and legs. These are the muscles that accelerate your arm so that you can throw the ball harder, faster, farther, etc... Leg? sure, remember that you can't shoot a cannon out of a cannoe. You need a strong ground support so that you can throw from the ground up.
Third, get out and throw the ball a few times each week. I work almost exclusively with baseball pitchers and quaterbacks and have developed specific throwing programs based on your current situations. Drop me a line at Dan@HuffTraining.com and I'll see what I can do about getting that for you.
If you are looking for more information on strength training check out a new program that we have developed at www.HuffTrainingOnline.com

I am a local Pop Warner coach and former QB, however, things have changed a bit since my playing days and I was hoping you could help by suggesting arm strengthing drills for our QBS.
Sincerely,
Bill

QB distance comes first from mechanics, 2nd from strength

I recommend making sure your qb's mechanics are strong first. This probably isn't news to you, but a lot of people would be surprised how much can be done with a weak arm and proper mechanics.
I recommend Darin Slack's DVDs. He's really revolutionary and simple too! I've heard so many people rave about them, it's really changed the lives of the athletes I've worked with. Get his first two dvds at www.quarterbackacademy.com
Also, I'd work with a slightly weighted ball to get your QB's strength up.
Hope this helps.
Joe
