Does anyone have any good drills to help 9 & 10 year olds learn how to fire out on the line and initiate contact, both on the offensive and defensive line?

I coach a youth team made up of 9 & 10 year old kids. this is my third year at this and we have been successful at teaching the kids the fundamentals of the game. Where we are lacking is in the conditioning of the kids to get them to respond to a late game score. I would appreciate any drills that would enable us to build stamina late in the game.

200 even: have all the linemen step right. If covered aggressive base blocking is used, if uncovered drop and hinge.go with 5 offensive linemen and 4 def. linemen and 1 mikebacker. go twice at 3/4 speed and then 3x at full speed. Check for form, showing #s, sitting back, using hands and moving feet. Dont give up inside edge.

I am coaching a first and second grade flag football team and I would like some drills that would strengthen my boys while having fun. I always try to end my practice with a fun drill that keeps them motivated and makes them excited for the start of the next practice! We play bull in the ring and the Oklahoma drills but I want something new each week. If you have anything like this I would love to see them.

Hey coach B, well it is hard to find drills simple enough for 9 &10 year olds to do. I think your answer is simple. Repetition will get them to fire out low and hard. A mdrill you might condiser is to get 2 bags and get 2 lines. Get a person to hold the bag and have another player get on his knees in front of the bag And on the count fire out extending to the ground and punch the bag. This will help with hip explosion and also initiating contact. But again I thnik if you just rep them out on your drills then they will be fine. Hope I helped you out.

a
as you know the first two steps are most imporant.i have a long thin pad i use to keep them low while firing out. i hold the pad about 2-3 inches over and in front of them' as they fire out of thier three point stance.stress low point of attack, quick take off and see what you hit.

A drill that I have always found successful is to have your entire group of both O and D linemen line up across the field and have them just fire out, diving out onto their bellies. March them up and down the field doing this. This programs their muscles to that motion. It is also great for conditioning.

The fist thing I would try is putting them in a 4 point stance instead of the three, The more natural movement would be to move forward not to stand up. You could do this until their movement is forward instead of up. Then you can move them back to the three point stance. If this doesn't work which it should! You can hold a board 3-4 feet high with a person on both ends so they have to shoot forward. also you can also place your hand on the back of th lineman's back so they can't stand up. At this age I would have my d-lineman in the 4 point stance. I would also emphasize looking forward they have a tendency to look where the running back is instead of the man in front of them. Hope this helps you. Good luck with your season.
