"So while air is being injected into the valve thru that leak, there is still much valve pressure on the face of the poppet. Any equilibrium will not be reached until the air can no longer pass thru the leak."
some theories die hard eh?
pump side pressure will rise to the point of equilibrium across the check valve. The check will not open until the pump pressure is positively over the sum of the internal pressure + cracking pressure + stiction of check design.
The check is but hovering in the midst of all that equilibrium.
