Many of the early examples of big bore guns hardly went over 1000psi. Where the ability to propel a projectile is the amount of pressuruzed volume pushing on the round. Since we know a rough idea of how much pressure some of the early examples used. How much volume is required? Credit, a bigger bore benefits from lower psi as the surface area of the round utilizes more of the pressure. With that, more volume is required to propel the round.
