Response to Maybe the main complication is that what we're calling "efficiency" isn't...
One reason stating that efficiency is a variable. Say, for example, hypotheictical, the first stroke has 98% efficiecny, the second 96.5%, so on, as the pressure builds the efficiency decreases - especially with such elastic material the Benji has. Conbine that with head space, then more losses. Minimize the elasticity of the pump seal, i.e. metal flat faced piston, the only loss takes place at the o-ring area. Still some loss, but far less.
My examples are the perfect example, but we all know, as do I, efficiency is not ever in perfect balance. A metal to metal seal, if possible, or non-give materials, then maybe would it be 100%.
