Sanded the whole stock smooth to 320 grit
apllied a heavy coat of sanding sealer, let dry (doenst take long), and sand smooth again, repeat at least one more time
Then I brushed on Cabots Ebony stain, let it set iirc 15 minutes or so and wiped it off. Cant remember if I let it "dry" over night or just brushed on naother layer of stain, let it set 15 minutes and then let it dry overnight. The stain has to be dry (or whatever "state" stain is for the finish coat), or nothing will stick to it for finish coats.
and the finish coat was 6 or nine coats of coats of Cabots spray polyurethane, 3 coats ( after that it wants to run and/or sag, and those are a b*tch to get out), let dry overnight and sand smooth with 600. After all the coats were on, I I sanded it out with 800, 1500 and wet sanded with 2000 grit. Then a lot of elbow grease, old t-shrit and cutting compound to bring out the mirror finish
Not hard at all. take your time, get even coats of everything on. Worst part is seeing it hanging on the wire to dry, nad wanting to get on with it.
