John, I have a good number of pellets guns to choose-from to plink-with in the backyard.
But, for my informal marksmanship practice ... using a pellet rifle to smash pecans at 15-yards or less.
Seems like too much wear-and-tear on a finely-tuned and relatively expensive German-made pellet rifle.
Or, too much over-kill with a 12fpe+ domestic sourced springer.
A BB-gun is the perfect choice for such short-range shooting.
My Crosman 760 with 4-or-5 strokes of compression is the almost perfect tool for pecan smashing
makes too much good sense. LOL
Just accurate enough ... just powerful enough ... no lead contamination ... quiet.
And, the spent steel-BBs overtime will dissolve to rust - providing iron my soil needs. LOL

But most importantly ... I'm having fun.
Even with ... just ... the OEM open-sights.
I'm smacking pecans out to 15-yards ... although at that distance, at best I'm hitting 3-out-of-5 shots on average.
But, at 25-feet to 10-yards ... the 760 is in its element.
And, so am I.
I can't think-of a less expensive way to spend a couple of hours of carefree afternoon shooting.
