Crosman 600 Problem

I bought a Crosman 600 off the Yellow forum from a guy named Philip Brancher... http://www.network54.com/Forum/79574/thread/1210089372/FS+---+Crosman+600+%2B+Holster+---+Immaculate The gun was advertised as being in 97% condition in both form and function. I received the gun yesterday and tried to install a Co2 cartridge. The gas just blew out everywhere. This gun was susposed to have some kind of upgrade that eliminates the piercing cap. (See the yellow forum post) I made sure the gun was cocked first, but I've tried 5 times to install a cartridge and the Co2 just leaks out in a few seconds. Am I missing something? Or does it sound like I've got a gun with blown seals? I've never owned a 600 before, so they are a new animal to me. I've tried to email the guy and he hasn't responded. Cosmetically, the gun is in great condition, but I am hesitant to break it open to check the seals since I've never done one before. I can take apart and reassemble a 22xx blindfolded in my sleep and have great mechanical skills, but I don't want to accidently screw something up by taking it apart. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Nuglor

Call Tim at Mac1 ...

looked at the ad post, hard to understand what that mod is all about or how it works without seeing the hardware. It's possible you're doing something wrong, but I've never seen one like yours. All four of the 600s I've had are the piercing cap variety, cartridge goes in with the neck facing out and the cap pierces it, real simple and opposite of what yours does. Personally I'd consult the expert ...

cr600 problem

Robert

sorry you're having problems with the 600. I bought this gun back in early february and for various reasons did not actually receive it until late march. when i got it i immediately loaded it and started shooting with the cartdige that was in the gun. it was shipped charged and held its charge all that time. since having it i must have loaded 7-10 cartridges with no problem, and sold it in good faith. no mod was done on this gun. the mod i posted was in response to a question someone posted as to whether it had a piercing cap, and what i posted described a procedure published by Crosman for modifying it so it would take a standard 160 piercing cap. maybe a seal or something just had its last hurrah when i shipped it to you. if you wish to return it to me or have me pay for its repair, pls. email me and we can discuss.
again, sorry for the problem you are having. I know it really sucks when you wait for something and then when you get it doesn't live up to expectations.

regards,

philip

I'm still looking at a 4 week turn around, but that's MUCH better than having a non-functioning gun.

You did the right thing ...

600s are way more complicated to work on than the 22xx and 13xx guns, just look at the parts diagram. Lots of little fiddly bits in places hard to reach. I think there's a special tool or two needed as well.

Tim just rebuilt a 600 and an old 400 rifle for me, did a fantastic job on both. As far as I'm concerned, he's the go-to guy for vintage Crosmans.

Philip Brancher is an honorable man...

He responded to me shortly after I made this original post and offered to completely refund my money or pay to have it fixed. We've come to an agreement and I am very happy with his honesty and integrity.
