A suggestion offered to aftermarket Crosman breech makers.

If the slot milled for the cocking pin were extended back to break into the front edge of the vertical hole for the rear screw, then the slot in the body tube could be similarly extended.

Then the cocking pin could be removed and installed through the screw hole.

This would make it possible to remove the hammer without removing the breech.

Sorry i didnt get back about the Slot in the other thread Steve. I wasnt quite sure what you meant, but as its been pointed out, the New Breeches Do have that Slot running into the Hole which i presume was done by Crosman because of the New Front Holdown Screw Relocation. My Breeches pictured in the Thread below didnt need it because the Screw hole is in the old location. Any further Breeches I make will have that slot running into the Hole. I may not even bother having a Front Holddown screw at all in Further Breeches, because the Front Built in Band Does Away with the Need for it At All. I dont think that making the Cocking slot longer will Help much cause the rear of the Bolt is already real close to hitting the Front of the Breech Plug when the gun is cocked. The Rear plug really needs to come out so that the Cocking pin will be back far enough to be Fished out of the Rear screw hole. Mind you, by the time you have taken out the Rear holdown screw to get the Bolt or Hammer and Spring out of the Tube, you have practically nothing left to do to take the Breech off completely anyway.

One Question though. What really would be the "Advantage Gained" and for "What Reason" for Changing the Breech Design so that the Hammer and Pin can be removed without Taking off the Breech?

The #4-48 breech screw is fragile and a common source of frustration...

...and the transfer port sleeve can be problematic as well.

For folks who are, for example, experimenting with different weight hammers, it would be a significant convenience to be able to R&R the striker without messing with those parts.

A real simpls fix to fit the old as well as the new style Crosman breech. Here's some photos I posted some time back when I was shrouding the new Crosman Discovery.

I used an RJ Machine high rise breech which required milling the cocking pin slot, on the bottom side, through the rear hold down bolt hole. I also had to relocate the 4-48 small breech hold down screw location in the RJ breech further back to accommodate the screw hold position in the Discovery then fill the old hole.

Milling out the slot would be especially helpful when using the new style breech, also when removing the bolt without removing the breech and when using an extended bolt probe.









Also for those that like to get into the guts of your Disco's this might help.

Ive already said that im prepared to extend the slot into the Hole from now on, and im sure the other Breech Makers will do the same in Time. Its pretty much a Transitional Period at present between the Old and New style Breeches.
