Finally, my Benjamin pump came today...ordered six weeks ago.

I pumped my gun to 2000 psi and took a couple shots over the chrony. I was impressed with the high 700+ velocity, but was wondering what else it could do. So I then pumped it to 3000 psi and shot it to empty, recording the results.

I then pumped it to 2000 psi and did a 10 shot recording.

Here are the numbers :

from a 3000 psi fill ( all shots with pointed crosman 14.3 grn, chrony six feet from muzzle )

1. 507.3
2. 503.7
3. 516.6
4. 515.6
5. error
6. 542.1
7. 548.7
8. 557.3
9. 561.9
10.573.8
11.580.3
12.600.1
13.606.6
14.612.1
15.633.4
16.646.1
17.663.6
18.675.1
19.681.2
20.686.0
21.710.4
22.726.3
23.732.5
24.749.5
25.764.1
26.772.3
27.783.1

Now for the 2000 psi fill
just a 10 shot string :

1.774.3
2.771.2
3.error
4.804.2
5.804.4
6.799.1
7.783.5
8.779.3
9.753.2
10.745.1

I then sited in the scope on a target mounted to the same 3/4 inch plywood board I had been shooting at over the chrony.....too my suprise, many of the pellets had blown right through.....this plywood was at a meaqsured 20 yards.

for those who missed it, this gun is exactly one half ( the front )of a discovery rifle tube. It has the same discovery valve and hammer.
I changed the valve spring before I ever shot it, and the hammer spring is my own arangment ( has two springs ). It has a 14 inch .22 crosman barrel sitting in a Crooked Barn breech. The grips are custom one pice ( by me ) and finished in Danish oil. The hammer has it's own cocking knob and the bolt is seperate and only for pushing in the pellet.

Think I might try even MORE hammer spring, see if I can get this pistol to break 900 fps with 14.3.............

I am doing something similar but using a 1760 tube. But I plan to use Disco a Disco valve and front fill. I will just be using it for CO2.

Does that rear Disco cap come drilled and tapped?

How many inches does the front fill nipple and then the cap add to the front of the tube?

Thanks

Curious re: what makes this tube safe at 3,000psi when we don't even know the material

July 23 2008, 5:08 PM

it is made from?
If Crosman has built it for 2,000psi then that would be the working pressure to observe.

Nicely made
scary fill

Be safe
Walter....

I don't know for sure........

July 23 2008, 5:20 PM

BUT, I am reasonably sure that CROSMAN'S LAWYERS would not let them sell the unit if it was not AT LEAST DOUBLE the strength needed for 2000 psi fill.

One observation ( anectdotal as it is ) , when milling and drilling, the metel did not seem ANY DIFFERENT ( hardness wise ) then a 22xx tube, and I could not see any difference in them at all.

But I am happy with the results, I get 10 full power shots from a 2000 psi fill, and it is easy to pump and does not take many pumps to get there....pretty much using 100 psi per shot, as there is 1000 psi showing on the pump's gage when filling after 10 shots.

For sure, there is not enough stryker spring to use much more than 2000 psi,
so I will keep it at that.....besides, I don't want to wear out the pump.

a bulkfill 22 cal pistol capable of 20 ft lbs, that actually looks a pistol and not a rifle with the stock cut and 8inches off the barrell. Beautiful, hats off to you.

.117, .22, .25, and maybe .308, .50 cal

July 23 2008, 10:01 PM

I want one in each calliber! Or better yet a screw in barrel with a witness mark and a 3000 or 4500PSI smallish bottle regulated down to 2000PSI or so (at the sweet spot) on my hip with a short Foster hose to refill it quick if I need 5, 10, 15 or more follow up shots! You can't beat that with a stick! That Dog will Hunt!

You did Real fine!
