Is it possible to increase the power of the Challenger and if so how do I go about it...I have the tools and have tuned a Rabbit Stopper before to good effect including the King Ratty...the Challenger looks like it is basicaly a Rabbit Stopper but a lot more accurate...I need to get it up to 9-10 flbs which is a bit more than the gun is pushing out at the moment....5.6flbs at best...I want to use the gun for close in vermin work...all help will be greatly appreciated and by the way I am the newby....

Re: Crossman Challenger

Looking at the parts diagram on Crosman's site it looks like the Challenger has more in common with the Benjamin G397 rifle than a Crosman 2260

Looks like a spacer or something in the Challenger valve and different hammer and spring in the Benji.

Hope this helps.

you are right

Its as I thought , the valve has a reducer inserted into the co2 chamber on the challenger to reduce the amount of co2 when firing, by removing this it will allow more co2 through therby increasing the power...the hammer, valve springs and firing pin are all the same as the 2260 and the benjamin...so in theory it should work....now where did I put my screwdriver.

bucket loads of power

Well, well,well....I stripped the gun taking the utmost care with the valve assembly and removed the brass ring that effectively reduced the inside diameter of the chamber and also reduced the power of the gun...with this ring removed and the gun re-assembled I tentatively gassed up and cocked the gun...pellet in the barrel and pulled the trigger...the increase in power is amazing I would say it had doubled the puny output of the standard gun and pushed the accuracy out to 30 yards...it hits hard and will make a fine close in hunter and looks fantastic to boot...so a job well done...only problem is the shot count is 25 from one bulb rather than the 45 from the standard gun...happy very happy.
